Jane Broussard Obituary

1938 - 2019 Jane Selman Broussard of Sour Lake passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at home with her children and family present, after a brief illness. Jane was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Beaumont, where she attended school and met her husband, David K. Selman. Together they raised their family and built their home in Silsbee. Jane was a well-known fixture in Silsbee for over 37 years. As a longtime employee of Silsbee State Bank, she was known by nearly everyone in the area and could be counted on for a good laugh, a pat on the back or a shoulder to cry on. She and David moved the family overseas for a few years in the late seventies. This provided a rich experience for them and their children. After returning to Silsbee, she continued to work at the bank and her yard which was her pride and joy. After her husband David passed away in 2003 she moved to Sour Lake. She enjoyed life there and participated in many civic functions as well as being treasurer for the United Methodist Church. In 2010 she married Woodrow Wilson (Bruce) Broussard of Sour Lake. He introduced her to ranching and she loved it. Bruce passed away in 2012 but not before she and he spent several wonderful years together along with her calf "Baby Jane." Jane is survived by her children, Benton Selman and wife Kathy, of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Rachel Selman Hughes of Sour Lake, and grandson, Richard Selman and wife Amanda, of Edmond, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Darden Armistead and Stella Ray Armistead, along with her brother, Richard Armistead, and sister, Betty Armistead Biggs. Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel in Silsbee from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service. Jane was a two time cancer survivor and the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
