In heartfelt memory of your dearest Kamisha--
I wanted you to know that a Women Veterans Conference was held on 8/29/09 in Boise, Idaho--the first ever to honor women veterans. As a USAF veteran (1974-78) I attended to see how women veterans would be honored at this event. There were many helpful kinds of information to assist women veterans of all ages. An especially touching portion of the conference was a ceremony honoring all of the fallen women since the deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each of us had a picture of a fallen female soldier, on our name tags, and we each stood to honor that person as their name was called. On my name tag was the picture and name of your beloved Kamisha. I wanted you to know that it was a great honor to stand and acknowledge Kamisha and to say a prayer for her and thank her for her service and sacrifice. I have a son, 20 years old, a RECON Marine, who is due to deploy to Afghanistan in 01/2010. So I understand how difficult it is just knowing your child is going into that sort of environment. Please know that my prayers are with you and I pray that healing will come to you over time. Veterans, like myself, will not forget Kamisha's service and sacrifice. And it is my understanding that these special memorial tributes are planned to be a part of every Women Veteran's Conference that the Veteran's Administration is planning for the future, around the U.S. Kamisha will be continue to be honored and not forgotten. God bless you all for the support you gave Kamisha to serve her country with confidence and honor. Sincerely,

Heather Wood

When you were down and having a bad day she would brighten it up for me! I am proud to say that I am your friend and I will always remember the times we had all the way from Pre-school to Graduation! Thank you for bein there through it all. You are my HERO.... I miss that laugh!

Wow, it's almost been 2 years now. I know as your team leader you probably didn't care to much for me. I just want to let you know that I really was trying to make you a better leader. You also made me a better leader. You thought and acted like I did as a young soldier. A friend of mine told me about that article in Maxim. It started making me think about you. Its been very hard for me to think or even talk about what happened that day. Spc Block I am so very sorry that I couldn't do what you did for me. Bring me home safe to my family.
To your family, Spc Block told my wife that she would bring me home. This might sound kinda out there. But not long after she passed, there was a white bird that stayed around our trailers. I truly believe it was Kamisha. I am so sorry for you loss. If you need anything, you know her friends who can find me. God Bless

Thank you for bein there when i needed you most.

Its been almost two years since that terrible day back in Baghdad. Although the time passes and the world keeps spinning, its nevertheless a bit darker, colder and less without you here. I can't believe its been two years - it seems like yesterday that we joked about the way you stood on one leg when you cooked. When you punched me jokingly because I dubbed you "pink" because you reminded me of a flamingo. Well, you have spread your wings and flew - but I know that somewhere amongst the clouds you are there. I know your up there looking down at us, one day I'll meet back up with you and we can continue our conversation about odd cooking habits. To Kamisha's family: I was in the 401st for 6 years and seen the passing of several awesome heros but that doesnt make it any easier. Kamisha was a bright light in all of our lives - a person with so much character. I hope that time has eased your suffering but I know each of you look forward to the day you will be reunited with her. I'm sorry that she didnt come home the way you would have liked, Im sorry that we couldnt bring her back the way you wanted. But just know that July 31st, 2008 was a good day - but it was also a sad day for me...because she wasnt there with us. RIP Kamisha Block.
Very Respectfully yours,
David S. Womack

I'm looking forward to a time when God's words promise: He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.
And God himself will be with them.  And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

With my deepest sympathy

I was going through my files today and found my newspaper that I had saved from the day of Kamisha's funeral. I'm not usually an emotional person but I choked up remembering that day, I had the ultimate honor of bringing Kamisha home. I was with her every step of the way from the airport in Dover to the moment she was lowered into the ground...
I will never forget the love and respect I felt for this fallen fellow soldier. My thoughts are still with the family and I hope that you are all doing well and that God has blessed you.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
