Madalyn Kay Hatch, affectionally called DD or Tia, was called Home by Our Lord on 6/5/2022 at her daughter's house in Beaumont.

She was born in Port Arthur, Texas 1/9/1945 to Gale and Loretta Hatch and grew up in Port Acres, Texas. She graduated from TWU in 1966 where she majored in journalism and met a lifetime friend. Kay was a teacher in many school districts for 30 plus years including Port Arthur. She loved books, horses, gardening and her family, especially her grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Katy, sisters Fern and Ginger and brothers Len, Riley and Felix.

She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Phoebe Foley and "Sonny Boy" William Carter; brother Tim Hatch; grandchildren Kane Touchstone of Dayton, Isabel Bryant and her 2 children, Mariyah and Edward, Lincoln Gajdosik and his son Phoenix of Dayton, Julez and Mason Gajdosik of Beaumont and Gracie of Baytown; nieces Tracey Wolfford of Jasper, Jennifer Phillips of Lufkin and Amy Hatch of Lufkin and nephew Gale Hatch. She will be remembered by numerous cousins, in-laws and friends. A Memorial will be planned later this year by her daughter Phoebe.

Oh Tia, I miss you every day. I quote you almost every day. I always find myself saying, "As my Tia would say..." I know it's been 2 years. Sometimes it feels like yesterday, and other times it feels like many moons ago. Just this little note has me writing through tears mixed with smiles as I remember you. I love looking at the sweet picture of you and just imagining what our conversation would be like today in light of certain events taking place in my life. You would have been so proud of Isabel who put together a wonderful memorial service for her DD. She's a lovely soul! I'm signing for now, but I will be back until the day we meet again in person to pick up where we left off. Much love--- XOXOXO

Kay was a lifelong friend that I cherished our friendship. She was the kind of friend that no matter how long you were out of touch, when you met up again, you just picked up from where you left off last time you were together. I have great memories of our growing-up years. I will miss you sweetheart.

First, my condolences to Phoebe, your babies, and the rest of your family. I pray for your peace and comfort in this time of immeasurable sadness.
My precious Tia-I have no memory of my life without you in it. From teaching me how to read at the age of 4, to always being my personal cheerleader,"Go eagles!" - accompanied by a high-kick!, through the sad and difficult times that we didn't want to face (but did it together in good humor---even if we did have to sneak in a few places to get it done), and you loving my children and my grandchildren as much as you did me- then topping it off with being related to my husband (your real kin), you've been with me every step of the journey (in person or in spirit)! You had a way with words, gave the very best compliments, encouraged life-long learning, and sprinkled your own brand of spice on 5 generations of our family, cher! I'm very blessed to have great memories that are too numerous to share, but they are forever etched in my heart! However, I share this photo from one of my favorite days- the Galveston Trip! I can't let myself get deep in the mulligrubs--because you're "Methodist." So, until we meet again, in your famous way of ending a conversation quickly, "Love you, bye!"

Zz how do you say goodbye to a dear friend since First Grade. You have been a joy to me and my entire family. We will miss your brilliance, intellect, humor, quick wit, caustic tongue and sage advice. You will be sorely missed but hold you and fond memories in our hearts forever. Our sincere condolences to Phoebe, Isabel and all your sweet family.
