Stefan Grove Obituary

Stefan Whitney Grove, 58, passed away on March 20, 2026.

Stefan was born on February 18, 1968, in Rhode Island. He spent part of his childhood in Florida before settling in Groves, Texas, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and later earned his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

Stefan was a proud Longhorn and a diehard fan of the University of Texas sports. That loyalty was put to the test when his daughter decided to attend and graduate from Texas A&M, conceding with, "At least it's not Oklahoma."

Oklahoma still sucks.

He also loved being involved in the community, especially through youth sports. Stefan spent years coaching with Groves National Little League, where he also served on the board, and coaching PNGYFA Football. It meant a lot to him to be part of those kids' lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah and Howard Grove; his grandparents, John and Ethel Hicks; and his aunts, Linda and Dorothy, and uncle, Oris.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kristie Grove; his son, Haden Grove; and his daughter, Sarah Grove. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Connie and Harry Broussard.

Stefan will be remembered most for his love of family, his sense of humor, and the life he built in Groves. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on March 26, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church, 5801 W. Jefferson St., Groves, TX 77619. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at Avenue Ax Sports Bar, 1126 Port Neches Ave., Port Neches, TX 77651.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kristie Grove through Gulf Credit Union, Account #95634.

Yesterday

I am very thankful for the years that Stefan was a great friend and mentor to my son, Daniel. Life gives us ups and downs- he never hesitated to ve there for Daniel, even in the most trying of times. To Kristy, Haden and Sarah, those we love don´t go away, they walk besides us everyday. You may not see or hear him, but he is with you always. As a longhorn fan, Hook´em!

To one of my best friends. Stefan and I first met in 1995 coaching baseball at Groves National. He showed up with his son Haden for practice and just jumped in and helped without even being asked. Him and I or wife's and children hit it off right away. He was one of the best story and joke tellers ever. I don't have enough paper to share all of the awesome memories we had together for the past 31 years of friendship. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. I love you buddy.

Sincerely,

Tater

Stefan was a great guy. I first met him at Sims Elementary School, and we later attended Thomas Edison Jr. High, then Thomas Jefferson High School, and finally the University of Texas together. Although we hadn´t seen each other in several years, I was glad to have reconnected with him on Facebook, and to see that he was doing well for himself. While I am saddened by his passing, I´m also thankful to have had him as a friend for all these years. Keeping his family in thoughts and prayers during this time. RIP, Stefan. Godspeed, my friend!
