Tim Dishman Obituary

1960 - 2018 A true cowboy and devout Christian, Tim "Monk" Dishman", died Friday, July 27, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas. Patriarch of the Dishman family and a true steward of the land he farmed for thirty years, Monk was at heart a real cowboy who began his rodeo career competing as a child in the Little Britches organization, advanced to two Texas High School Rodeo Bareback Championships, and rose to the top of the elite Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as a three-time (1982, 1983, 1984) National Finals Rodeo qualifier in the bareback riding event. Monk turned professional in 1977 and in his career earned championship event titles coast to coast including reserve champion Bareback titles at the prestigious Houston and San Antonio Rodeos and numerous event wins. In 1984 and 1986 he won one the coveted Texas Circuit Finals Championship. A dedicated cowboy, Monk's accomplishments in the arena were recognized as he was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2015. Monk met his wife Kay at a rodeo in Hallettsville before either had a driver's license and they began their life's journey with rodeo as their bond. Their thirty-eight-year marriage began in 1980 and for the next seven years they traveled the country, living their dream. In 1987, following his father's death, Monk closed the gate on his bareback riding career to return to the family business, Dishman & Sons Farms, and together with Kay raise their two children, Zach and Zane. Throughout his life, Monk told the media and friends he had no regrets retiring in his prime. Monk is remembered as a dedicated cowboy, an extraordinary friend, a trusted husband, son, brother, and business partner, but one of his greatest accomplishments was being a proud father and grandfather. On Dishman road, he will be remembered for how he encouraged his children in 4-H, rodeo, and their education. Zach would follow in his father's footsteps as a PRCA bareback rider earning numerous buckles and titles and a degree in Agricultural business from Texas Tech as he remained a PRCA competing member while in college. Zane also participated in high school and college rodeo and earned a degree from Texas A&M. He is proud to say that she now teaches his three grandchildren at Devers ISD. As a father, Monk encouraged them work hard and achieve their goals. Monk was exceptionally proud of the family tradition of farming, which he learned from his daddy "Bear" and the joy of working with his son Zach, his Mom, brothers Rodney and Tuff, and nephew Josey. Monk was a man of few words who was always heard, his wit was appreciated, and his compassion and enthusiasm have been felt, and he will be deeply missed by all who crossed his path. However, the stories he told us about his rodeo career and his reminder of God being real will live with us forever. It will be difficult to envision the Southeast Texas Community of Rodeo, farming or card playing without visualizing Monk Dishman. Throughout his travels his love for home, family, and The Lord never diminished. Monk was a faithful member of Forest Park United Methodist Church where he attended with his family. Those who know him know Monk was a large supporter of Christian ministries. Monk was preceded in death by his father, James Clyde "JC" Dishman, Jr.; his brother, Tuff Dishman; maternal grandparents, Curtis and wife Jim Davis; paternal grandparents, James Clyde Dishman, Sr. and wife, Thelma Dishman. Monk is survived by his wife Kay; children, Zach and his wife, Ashley and Zane; grandchildren, Dalton, Makenna, and Adalyn, and her father, Kyle Blank; mother, Ginger Ann "GAD" Dishman; brother, Rodney and his wife, Libbie; Skipper Tammen and his wife, Deborah; sister-in-law, Tam O'Neal and her husband, Kent; nephew, Josey and his wife, Ashlyn; and two nieces, Jennifer Pierce and her husband Stoney and Alicia Lee. He also had many great-nieces and nephews. A gathering of Mr. Dishman's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to celebrate Monk's life at Courvilles, 1744 Rose Lane, Beaumont. Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park United Methodist Church, 225 South Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77707. As a family and a community, we have lost an honorable man. A true friend to all. May his kind, Christian, and humble spirit continue in each of us. Complete and updated information may be found at: brousards1889.com.
