Andrew Allan Obituary

Andrew Allan
February 3, 2021
O'Fallon, Illinois - Andrew A. "Andy" Allan, age 82, a 43-year resident of O'Fallon, IL died on February 3, 2021 at the Colonnade Senior Living Facility in O'Fallon.
Andy proudly served his country, both in uniform and as a civilian engineer for over 40 years. Andy began his service in 1960 after graduating from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. While in the military he was assigned to bases in North Dakota and Guam. Andy resigned his Air Force commission in 1966, but he joined the Civil Service as an engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB. In 1978, he moved to Illinois to become the Deputy Base Civil Engineer at Scott AFB, and later he became the Director of Engineering for the Military Airlift Command.
Andy never forgot his military roots. Along the way, he rejoined the Air Force as a reservist and served in that capacity until he retired as a Colonel in 1989. He continued his engineering career at the Military Airlift Command until retiring from the Civil Service in 1993. However, Andy was still not done with his engineering contributions to the nation. He accepted a position in the private sector with the Sverdrup Corporation where he was responsible for constructing new base housing at Scott AFB along with numerous projects at Mid-America Airport.
After successful stints in both public and private sector engineering, Andy finally decided to retire to a life in the outdoors where he could pursue his love of gardening.
In 2006, he took a Master Gardening Class and became a Certified Master Gardener with the University of Illinois Extension Service. He volunteered at the Henry White Experimental Farm where he helped grow and transport fresh produce to the O'Fallon Food Pantry.
Andy was a very active member of the O'Fallon Methodist Church serving in many capacities at both the local and district level.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rose, nee Dedek, Allan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Emily, nee Schinkel, and three sons: Jonathan (Pam), Benjamin (Sophia), and Daniel (Wendy). He has five Grandchildren: Karis (Brady) Bates, Nathan (Courtney), Katherine, Sofia, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Dalton, a niece, Ann Dalton; a brother, Robert (Lucy) and a nephew, David.
Andy's body was donated to the St. Louis University School of Medicine. The family requests no flowers. Memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church of O'Fallon, Illinois or the O'Fallon Food Pantry.
A Memorial Service will be held at the O'Fallon First United Methodist Church at 2 pm., Saturday, May 8, 2021, with the Rev. Don Long officiating. A live-stream of the service can be viewed on the church's Facebook page (O'Fallon First United Methodist Church), and YouTube: (O'Fallon First United Methodist Church).
