Anna Manning
Anna Ruth Manning, nee Rowery, of Belleville, Ill., born July 12, 1936, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., died at 9:55 Sunday, March 29, 2009, at home surrounded by her immediate family.
Mrs. Manning was the oldest child born to Eldra and Annie Mae Rowery, and had three sisters, Edna (Robert) Allen, Vicki (Louis) Smith, Judy (Carl) Hunt and a brother, Reginal Rowery.
Ann, as we lovingly called her was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She delighted in spending time with family. Her children, Grandchildren and great-grandchildren always looked forward to and treasured their special time with her. Ann was a great cook and enjoyed cooking and baking desserts, especially egg custard pies.
Ann was a faithful Christian who found the Lord at an early age. She was baptized in 1951 at Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Brown. She was united in Holy Matrimony on Aug. 13, 1953, to Fred L. Manning Jr. This union was blessed with one child, Fred Manning III. Ann made many sacrifices for family and friends, spending her life helping others.
Ann grew up on sixth street in East St. Louis, Ill., and attended Carver, Hughes-Quinn and Lincoln High Schools. She graduated from State Community College as a certified nurse assistant. Ann worked as a CNA for 33 years at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., until her retirement in the year 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldra and Annie Hood Rowery; two children, Michael Manning and Joyce Manning Mosley; and her husband, Fred Manning Jr.
Surviving are her son, Fred Manning III; two daughters, Janice Manning (Nathaniel) Gladney and Cynthia Manning, three sisters, Edna Rowery Allen, Vicki Rowery Smith, and Judy Rowery Hunt; a brother, Reginal Rowery; a special adopted granddaughter, Dana Manning; and numerous grandchildren great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Service: Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

To the Manning and Rowery Family,
I am deeply sadden by the loss of your dear
mother and sister Ann Ruth. I knew her as a teenager and spent many days at her home with her sister Edna. My condolences to you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Manning family during their time of loss.
Please be assured that Anna is at rest and peace now in the hands of our Lord. Our sincerest condolences to the Manning family. We know that Anna loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. We did not know her very long but we were touched by her kindness and thoughtfulness. Take care and God bless everyone in Ann's family.
