Branden Schaefer

Branden L. "Brad" Schaefer 68, of Collinsville, Ill., born Thursday, Jan. 22, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill., with his family by his side.

Branden worked at Gateway Co-Packing Company and attended First Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, Ill. He was a 1966 graduate of Carmel High School in Mundelein, Ill., and earned a BA in History from Western Illinois University in 1970. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan living in enemy territory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janina "Kay" nee Prangl, Schaefer; brother-in-law, Rex Wright; and grand-dog, Buddy Karr Schaefer.

Surviving are his wife, Janice, nee Humphreys, Schaefer of Collinsville, Ill., whom he married on June 12, 1971, at First Baptist Church, Fairview Heights, Ill.; his son, Christopher Schaefer of New York, N.Y.; his daughter, Heather Schaefer of Denver, Colo.; his father, Wilbert H. Schaefer of Trevor, Wis.; a sister, Susan (Michael) Tucker of Gurnee, Ill.; a brother, John (Mary) Schaefer of Trevor, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Beth Wright, Laura (Fred) Grueber, both of Collinsville, Ill.; his awesome and loving nieces and nephews; and his grand-dog, Sully Von Schaefer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wright Education Fund c/o Beth Wright, or to the Chicago Bears in efforts to replace Quarterback Jay Cutler.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at First Baptist Church, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at First Baptist Church, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Dr. James Kerr officiating. There will be a private family interment.
