Charles Baer
Charles Martin "Chuck" Baer, 76, of Cahokia, Ill., born Feb. 22, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Baer was a United States Coast Guard veteran. He moved to Cahokia in 1959 where he worked as a sales manager for Oliver J. Parks. He founded Chuck Baer Realty in 1969 and the Cahokia R.V. Park in 1990. Chuck graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School and Hadley Technical High School where he was an avid ball player who loved to play as a pitcher and sometimes a catcher. He loved to play fast pitch softball where he could show off his muscles in his pitching arm. Chuck was a real estate broker and G.R.I. (Graduate Real Estate Institute). He was founding member of S.I.A.C.
(Southern Illinois Athletic Club). He retired from The Department of Housing & Urban Development where he was a reality specialist. After retirement he worked part time as a real estate broker and H.U.D. representative for Southern Illinois region. He was past president of Arch-View East Board of Realtors and Holy Family School Board. He was a member of the Bite-Me Bass Club and the American Cancer Society. He contributed and supported numerous charities and organization. He was a passionate Jazz enthusiast and an avid trout and bass fisherman. He loved traveling the United States and spending time on any beach with a great view.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, nee Black, Baer; and parents, Charles A. and Angeline, nee Kovac, Baer.
Surviving are his children whom he unconditionally loved and supported, son, Charles (Donellen) Baer Jr., of Johnston City, Ill.; daughter, Viki (Ron) Goodnick of Waterloo, Ill.; brothers and sisters, Darlene (John) Imo of St. Louis, Mo., Robert (Josephine) Baer of St. Louis, Mo., Carolyne (Rich) Mueth of St. Louis, Mo., and Sandy (Jim) Hurst of Columbia, Ill.; grandchildren, Emily Baer, Ethan Baer, Bailey Goodnick, Logan Goodnick, Thomas Goodnick, and Sarah Baer; and his partner, Charlotte Hamm. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

Funeral: A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private cremation was held.

To all of Chuck's family and many friends - you are blessed by knowing such a classy man. He will be dearly missed.

We are saddened to hear of Mr. Baer's passing. He was one of those parents who watched us all as we grew up. I remember him as being very jovial - but also stern if we got out of line. Heaven is a better place with him in it. He can tell all his great stories. Keep him in your heart.
