Belleville, Illinois - Dennis M. Vander Pluym, 64, of Belleville, IL, born June 14, 1956, in Belleville, IL, died Saturday, February 6, 2021, at his residence.
Dennis was a machinist who had owned The Crank Shop, Millstadt, IL, and also worked for B&D Machinery, Marissa, IL. He was a former volunteer firefighter with Northwest St. Clair County Fire Protection District. He liked to fish, watch NASCAR, and enjoyed cooking and camping. Dennis loved growing vegetables in his garden and most of all spending time with his only grandchild, Mia.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude, nee Weingart, Vander Pluym; a brother, David Vander Pluym; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Brown.
Surviving are his loving wife, Patricia Lorene, nee Neff, Vander Pluym; two children, Luke Vander Pluym of Chicago, IL, and Jennifer (Eric) Joseph of Smithton, IL; a granddaughter, Mia Joseph; his father, David Vander Pluym; four sisters, Donna (Bill) Foutch, Shari (Bob) Sobczak, Barb Whan (Ron Sobczak), and Shelly (David) Langford;two brothers-in-law, Elmer (Jeannette) Neff and Ron (Janelle) Neff; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Vander Pluym and Darlene Brown; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, to the American Heart Association, or to the Friends of Rickover Naval Academy, Chicago, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. Standard CDC guidelines, including masks, will be observed.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. John Myler officiating.
According to Dennis's wishes, cremation was held.

My condolences to the Vander Pluym family. You might not remember me Debbie(Gardner) Grider from the old Dawn Heights neighborhood. I was so sad about Denny’s passing and my thoughts are with you guys.

Pat,
I was so sorry to hear about Denny. I remember how close the two of you have always been; in fact, I remember that you constantly talked about him when we worked together. Years later it was obvious the pride you both had for your kids. I can only imagine what a great grandpa he was! May your beautiful memories of your sweet Denny help you through this most difficult time. Love and prayers for you all.
