Elizabeth Mecklenburg Obituary
March 17, 1964 - September 22, 2024
Freeburg, Illinois - Elizabeth Mecklenburg, nee Wnuk, 60, of Freeburg, Ill., passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024, with her family at her side. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 17, 1964, the daughter of Nicholas and Helen Wnuk, sister of Nicholas (Marilyn) Wnuk, Laura (Gary) Eichorn, and the late Helen Rose Allen.
Elizabeth graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in 1982 where she played soccer and softball. She then attended St. Louis University where she received her degree as a speech-language pathologist. She worked at Central School District 104 in O'Fallon, Ill., for over 25 years.
Liz loved spending time at home with her family and dogs (Harper, Jackson, and Zelle). She was known for her love of animals, Snoopy, soccer, and her wonderful sense of humor.
Mrs. Mecklenburg was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Helen Wnuk, and sister, Helen Rose Allen.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John Mecklenburg; step-daughter, Lindsay Mecklenburg; daughter, Sarah (Richard) Weber; son, Samuel Mecklenburg; two grandchildren, Russell and Winifred Weber; and nephew, Michael (Aida) Joslin.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, Ill. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Freeburg, Ill., at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024. Private burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

I am so sorry to hear about Liz. My daughter, Erin Powers, loved you both in her early years of Special Ed at Mamie O Stookey. I will never forget all that you and Liz did for her and our family. I pray for peace for you and your children in your time of grief.
