George Hopper Obituary

George "Gus" Hopper
George J. "Gus" Hopper, 67, of Fairmont City, Ill., born Dec. 26, 1937, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at his residence.
He was a retired security guard with National City Stockyards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Hopper and Sarah, nee Kreider Coil; his sister Delores Powell; his two brothers, Charles Hopper, Sr. and Robert Hopper; his step-parents, Melvin Coil and Mary Hopper; and a step-brother, Johnny Foster.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, nee Whithead, Hopper; his children, Celeste, nee Walker, Murphee of Springfield, Ill.; Gina Chase of Hillsboro, Mo., Anthony Chase of Fairmont City, Ill., Allen Chase of Granite City, Ill., and Velva Chase of Fairmont City, Ill.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Virginia Mathis of Fairmont City, Ill., and Jo Ann (Dave) Vitale of California; three children from a previous marriage, Leonard Hopper, Greg Hopper and Lisa Hopper; numerous sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
A special thanks to Billy and Bobby O'Dell, the paramedics and the Fairmont City Police Department for all their help.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with the Rev. John DeLong and the Rev. R. K. Muzzarelli officiating.

To Brother In Law Gus: we had such a great time over the Thanksgiving Holiday. In the 30 years I have been married to your sister, this was the most time we spent togetherand ther most fun together. Going to Bingo a couple of times, playing cards at Kenny & Stacy house, and the laughs we had at the Flea Market and meeting all your friends, which there was MANY.we will all miss you Gus. Love your brother in law Dave ( or as you always called me your rich brother in law)
