Homer Brethauer Obituary

Dr. Homer Brethauer
Dr. Homer A. Brethauer, 101, of Belleville, Ill., born Dec. 5, 1905 in Belleville, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center in Swansea, Ill.
Dr. Brethauer practiced in general dentistry in Belleville for 56 years after graduating in 1929 from the Washington University School of Dentistry, St. Louis, Mo. A Boy Scout during his early years, he reached the rank of Eagle
Scout and later served as troop leader. He served on the Board of Education, Belleville Public Schools District 118 from April 1946 to April 1955. A member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle (Grace Church) in Fairview Heights since 1971, served on the Elder Board. Active in Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International he served as president of the Belleville Chapter for a number of years in the 1970's. A member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society and St. Clair District Dental Society. He was also a charter member of DeMolay in Belleville, St. Clair Lodge 24 AF&AM and Masonic/Hi-Twelve service clubs. At his 100 birthday party, his only desire was that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren remember him as a godly man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola L., nee Wagner, Brethauer; parents, John C. and Magdalene, nee Gambach, Brethauer; sister, Hulda E. Brethauer; brother, Victor who died in infancy; and son-in-law, Jack O. Johnson.
He is survived by daughters, Marilyn Johnson of French Camp, Miss., Evelyn (Wayne F.) Schlosser of Belleville, Ill.; son, Stuart (Carol) Brethauer of Belleville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and cousins and friends
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Church in Fairview Heights, French Camp Academy, French Camp in Mississippi, American Dental Association Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Kurrus Funeral Home Chapel in Belleville, Ill., with Rev. Hal Santos officiating. Burial will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, Ill.
