Jason Schmidt Obituary

Jason Schmidt

Jason "Bubba" Thomas Schmidt, 33, of Fayetteville, IL, formally of O'Fallon, IL, born Tuesday, December 18, 1984, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, MO. After Jason passed he donated his brain to the Brain Tumor Research Legacy Foundation - Washington University at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Jason woke up with a headache at 19 years old and at 33 years of age he never once complained, he just continued to fight until the end. However, during this time Jason had 10 free years before the same tumor came back in a non-operable place. Jason grew up on a horse/cattle farm and lived up until this past summer at the family farm in O'Fallon, IL. Jason showed his pony, Strawberry Jack, and other horses as a youth. He attended OTHS and received his bachelor's degree in Medical Science from SIUE and was to start pharmacy school. He worked in the OTHS computer department and at A.C. Computers in O'Fallon, IL. Jason spent his time working on computers and was very good at it. He also worked at the O'Fallon Walgreens for 10 plus years as a pharmacy technician. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O'Fallon, IL. Jason will be truly missed by anyone who knew him and his fight with a brain tumor. His family hopes his medical research will help others in the future.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Girlie Schmidt of O'Fallon, IL; maternal grandfather, Ray Nering of Maryville, IL; godmother and aunt, Carolyn Chanel, nee Schmidt, of San Francisco, CA; and his godfather and uncle, Eric Nering of Modesto, CA.

Jason is survived by his father, Thomas R. Schmidt of Fayetteville, IL; mother, Carolyn Schmidt, nee Nering, of Belleville, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Alison Schmidt of Fayetteville, IL; stepmother, Linda Sobczak of Belleville, IL; maternal grandmother, Deloris Nering of Freeburg, IL; uncle, Brian Nering of Waynesville, MO; aunt, Karen Garringus, nee Nering of Wentzville, MO; his rescued dog, Fred; and many friends.

The family would like to thank Barnes Jewish Hospital, Barnes Jewish Home Hospice and Barnes Jewish Evelyn's House. They are thankful to have such a wonderful practice close to their home.

Memorials may be made to Washington University Brain Tumor Research (gifts.wustl.edu). Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.schildknechtfh.com.

Services: At the family's request, no services will be held.

A celebration of Jason's life will be on a later date at the new family farm south of Fayetteville, IL.
