Leta Rae Bauer

Leta Rae Bauer, 76, of Ruma, Ill., born March 7, 1934, in Modoc, Ill., passed away at 5:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud, Ill.

Mrs. Bauer worked for the First State Bank in Red Bud for a short time. She then worked as a head cook for Red Bud Elementary School, feeding many children for 27 years.

She was a very active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ruma, was an avid quilter at church and catered many meals at the parish center for the past 10 years. Leta Rae loved taking her grandkids shopping and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo P. and Burnet, nee Brown, Robert; and a son, Steven Bauer.

Surviving are her husband, Gilbert A. Bauer whom she married on Sept. 9, 1953, in Red Bud, Ill.; five sons, Keith (Cindy) Bauer of Red Bud, Ill., Bruce (Mary) Bauer of Red Bud, Ill., James (Kathy) Bauer of Red Bud, Ill., David (Joy) Bauer of Red Bud, Ill., and Tony (Amy) Bauer of Ruma, Ill.; a brother, Leo Roy (Irene) Robert of Red Bud, Ill.; a special aunt, Lu Cowell of Red Bud, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Memorial may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, Red Bud, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, may 28, 2010, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ruma, Ill., with Monsignor Dennis Schaefer, Father Clyde Grogan, and Father John J. Joyce officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Ruma, Ill.
