Linda Shaffer Obituary

Linda K. Shaffer

April 3, 1969 - December 15, 2023

Fairview Heights, Illinois - Linda Kathleen Shaffer, age 54, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on April 3, 1969, in Belleville, IL, died on December 15, 2023, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

Linda was a beautiful, brilliant, creative, and independent woman who loved her friends and family fiercely. She was Godmother to her nephews, and she took pride in being their spiritual shepherd as they created many core memories together walking the Stations of the Cross at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine. Her imagination was limitless, and she used her crafting skills (passed down from her mother and father) to create custom bedrooms and fantastic Halloween costumes for her nephews. Linda was an educator for many years, earning her bachelor's degree at SIU Edwardsville and mentoring young minds at schools across the area including Grant and Central Elementary Schools, and Althoff Catholic High School, as well as Sylvan Learning Center. Linda, along with her sister Patty, then found her calling at Valley Industries, a workshop for adults with developmental disabilities. Linda served as Office Administrator at the workshop for the past 16 years. Linda also worked as a cashier/office assistant at Prindable Schumacher Auction Services for nearly 20 years. She said she didn't need the extra job, but Dave Schumacher wouldn't let her quit. They walked out "arm in arm" after the company's final building sale last year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John P. Shaffer and Lillian M. Shaffer; and sister Patricia A. "Patty" Marks (nee Shaffer).

Linda is survived by her nephews, AJ (Alecia) Marks II of Swansea, IL and Greg (Andrea) Marks of Edwardsville, IL; brother-in-law, Tony Marks; great nephews, AJ III, Alex, Trey, and Ali; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Memorials will be accepted to Valley Industries at the funeral home or online using the following link: https://valleyind.net/fundraising-events/make-a-donation/

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., 9900 St Clair Avenue, Fairview Heights, IL.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., with Father Stan Konieczny officiating.

I remember Linda quite well. We used to work together many years ago. I´m sure she´s resting in peace.

So very sorry to hear about Linda´s passing. I used to live next door to her family on Lucinda Drive. When I was a teenager I babysat for Patty and Linda. Lil and John were a lot of fun and great parents. Prayers for all of her family and friends for peace in their hearts. Gone way too soon!
