Lucile Katty Obituary
Lucile Marie Katty
June 19, 1931 - December 22, 2024
Belleville, Illinois - Lucile Marie Katty (née McIntyre), formerly of Sparta and Belleville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 12:09 a.m., in Ellisville, Missouri. She was 93 years old. Lucile was born on a hot summer day, June 19, 1931, to Delbert J. McIntyre and Mary I. McIntyre (née Outten), in Eden, Illinois, at the home of her maternal grandparents. The eldest of 4 siblings, Lucile graduated from Sparta High School, in 1949, and went on to Nursing School, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated as a Registered Nurse and began work at Missouri Baptist, where she met her husband, Dr. V.S. Katty affectionately called Bob. They married on September 2, 1956, in Reverend Robert Stewart's office at the Bethel Reformed Presbyterian Church of Sparta, Illinois.
Lucile worked as a R.N. at several hospitals usually in pediatrics during her career, including some in Saskatchewan, Canada, when the couple lived there. After moving back to the U.S., from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, Lucile served as primary nurse and office manager for her husband's thriving private practice in Steeleville and Sparta, Illinois. After her husband passed in 1983, she worked as an office manager for another medical practice until she retired in 1990 when her first grandchild arrived. Lucile enjoyed reading, traveling, caring for her pet cats over the years, attending church services, and spending time with friends and family.
Preceding Lucile in death were her beloved husband of 27 years, Dr. V.S. Katty; her parents Delbert and Mary; her siblings: Irene Hood (and husband Donald); Sarabel Reents (and husband William); James McIntyre; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Surviving family members include her daughter Sheila Misselhorn (née Katty) and son-in-law David Misselhorn of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren Paige Misselhorn, of Bloomington, Indiana, and Paul Misselhorn, of Sarasota, Florida; great-niece Katie Wilson (née Hood) and husband Mike, of Waterloo, Illinois; as well as numerous cousins on the Outten side of the family. Also, in India, Dr. Katty's home country, are niece Preeti Kamata, nephew Kiran Kattishettar (and wife Sujatha), and numerous other nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children.
The story of Lucile is one inextricably tied to her husband's story. Their love story was an unlikely one for the 1950s, but it stood the test of time as they married, had a child, and built a life together. Their success as a married couple and as partners in the medical practice that benefited the entire county serves as testament to their devotion to their community and to each other. Lucile survived her beloved husband by over 41 years. She thought of him every day as she attempted to continue to live a full life without him. Now she has gone home to God and to Bob.
The family wishes to thank all those professionals who cared for Lucile during her later years, including Visiting Angels and staff at Mercy Rehab and Care Center of Swansea, Ellisville Rehab and Nursing Care, Belleville Memorial Hospital, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lucile's name to First United Presbyterian Church of Belleville, Illinois or Westminster Presbyterian Church of Sparta, Illinois.
