Norman Turner

Norman J. Turner, 93, of Collinsville, Ill., born Sept. 22, 1920, in Collinsville, Ill., passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Norman was a 1938 graduate of Collinsville High School. He retired after over 50 years as a carpenter for local 295 in Collinsville. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a member of the VFW Post 5691 in Collinsville. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville. Besides spending time with his family, he also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Gilbert and Laura Olga, nee Troliet, Turner; three brothers, Austin, Edward, and Ardy Turner; and three sisters, Helen Shelton, Louise Cargnino, and Audrey Newgent.

Surviving are his wife, Annabelle, nee Randolph, Turner whom he married on August 9, 1947; a daughter, Janet (Curtis) Knolhoff of Collinsville; four grandchildren, Norman (Katrina) Knolhoff of Edwardsville, Ill., Courtney (Sean) Hay of Collinsville, Erynn (Robert) Molina of Collinsville, and Kim (Moses) Jaoko of Collinsville; eight great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Althea Knolhoff, Elijah and Nathan Hay, Robert and Benjamin Molina, and Laila and Leo Jaoko; a brother, Fred Turner of Collinsville; a sister-in-law, Vi Turner of Collinsville; a brother-in-law, Darwin Newgent of Belleville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Maryville, Ill. VFW Post 5691 will be standing honor guard.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Walther officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.

Bob Thouvenot had rotator-cuff surgery
Nov. 14. We did not look at the papers until he came home Sat. We are saddened
