Richard Poletti Obituary

Richard Phillip Poletti
August 24, 1961 - November 3, 2021
St. Charles, Missouri - Richard Phillip Poletti, August 24, 1961 to November 3, 2021 of St. Charles, MO, previously of Springfield, MO and Hillsboro, OR. Born August 24, 1961 in Clayton, MO and passed away November 3rd, 2021 at Evelyn House in Creve Coeur, MO after an extended illness.
Richard was raised and lived in the Belleville, IL area for around 30 years, developing his IT programming and analysis skills. Richard lived in Hillsboro, OR for over 20 years working as a senior IT architect for Columbia Sportswear. Richard loved his work and enjoyed his time in the Pacific Northwest. During that time, Richard cared for his mother following the death of his father. After retirement, he settled in Springfield, MO, worked full time in the IT department for Redneck Trailer Supplies and was very active in Queen of All Saints Catholic Church. He relocated to the St. Louis area a few years ago to be treated for a rare cancer that finally took him.
Richard enjoyed years of amateur astronomy including building his own telescopes. He was an excellent photographer of landscapes and vast expanses of scenery that reflected his love of the outdoors. He also was skilled in woodworking and created numerous pieces of fine furniture that will provide many years of living legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Poletti, Jr; and Virginia, nee Renois Poletti; brother Robert T. J. Poletti and former wife Barbara L. nee Mankedick Edwards.
Surviving are his son, Joshua P. Poletti (Victoria) of St. Peters, MO; daughter, Dyan M. Conner of Beverly Hills, CA and son, Jason H. Conner (Theresa) of Bridgeton, MO; grandchildren Owen R. Poletti and Henry D. Poletti; brothers, Joseph W. "Bill" (Jackie) Poletti, III of Fairview Heights, IL, Paul V. E. Poletti of Handy, MO, John D. Poletti (Lynn) of Hamel, IL; and sister Mary C., nee Poletti DeVany (Wesley Lashbrook) of Vancouver, WA; sisters-in-law, Judy Poletti and Michelle Poletti; eight nieces and nephews.

I think about Richard everyday. I just want to share a memory he thought was funny. When we were first moved to Springfield, he was eating at a Mexican restaurant with his back to the entrance. Max and I sat down. Then I came up from behind and put my arms around him and kissed him on the cheek. He jumped and turned his head around. His cheeks were all pink. His colleagues, jaws dropped and eyes bulging, scooted away from the table staring at me. Richard burst out laughing. He said, "Guys, this is my wife." They immediately relaxed. They said, "I thought that was some new service here." "Man, I thought she was the waitress." I was wearing a red shirt. All the waitresses were were wearing red blouses. I guess with my long dark hair, they thought I was Mexican. For days afterwards, he would start chuckling, and I knew what he was thinking about.

Sunday, July 3, 2022, to Richard's son -- who I met when visiting Richard in Portland, OR in April of 2008 -- my deepest sympathies on the loss of your Dad. He and I met through CatholicMatch, and I truly enjoyed the phone conversations he and I shared. He then invited me to visit him in Portland, and took me on a road trip through several areas in the state. Those memories of him and his guided tour will last me a lifetime with the help of several photos he took for me.
As you might know, he was quite a master with the camera. Again, my deepest condolences on his passing away. I will remember you in my prayers. God bless and keep you, now and always.
