Robert Gill
Robert J. "Bob" Gill, 60, of Freeburg, Ill., born Aug. 27, 1946, in Belleville, Ill., died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital / Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fla., while awaiting a lung transplant. Robert and his beloved wife of 35 years, Roberta, had spent the past seven months in Florida while Bob was on the transplant waiting list.
Bob was a computer systems engineer for Union Pacific RR in St. Louis for 34 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the aircraft carrier, USS Saratoga. Bob was a loving husband devoted to
his wife and children. He especially enjoyed family vacations, such as climbing the pyramids at Chichen Itza, going to the Daytona 500 races, or vacations at the beach. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Sean Patrick Gill; his parents, James and Mary, nee Ferguson, Gill; a brother, Thomas Gill; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Nadine Hazelwood.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta, nee Hazelwood, Gill, whom he married Dec. 17, 1971; a daughter, Tiffany Gill, and two sons, Patrick Gill and Cody Gill, all of Freeburg, Ill.; a brother, James (Darlene) Gill of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Mary (James) Harrison of Montrose, Mich., Joan (Russell) Reheis of Dupo, Ill., and Jane (William) Schilling of Stevensville, Mont.; three sisters-in-law, Helen Gill of Freeburg, Ill., Lois (Charles) Wiles of Freeburg, Ill., and Barbara Hazelwood of Staunton, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Gregory (Judy) Hazelwood of Freeburg, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association (www.lungusa.org) or to The James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness (www.jrifilms.org) Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill..

Funeral: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill., with the Rev. Mark Reyling officiating. Bob's organs and tissues were donated to the South East Tissue Alliance benefiting 50 to 75 people. His remains were cremated.
