Robert "Sock" Kauling
Robert "Sock" Kauling, 59, of Beckemeyer, Ill., born April 17, 1944, in Breese, Ill. died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Breese, Ill.
"Sock" was a member of St. Anthony Church, Beckemeyer, Ill. He was a past president of the Mater Dei High School school board; past president of the Mater Dei Fathers and Friends Club; served as chairman of the Mater Dei High School Capital Campaign and presently serves as commander of the Holthaus/ Kampwerth American Legion Post 1227, Beckemeyer, Ill. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2869 of Breese, Ill.; was a former volunteer fireman with the Beckemeyer-Wade Township Fire Department, served as village clerk for the village of Beckemeyer; founded the Beckemeyer Little League and Golf for Kids program; was vice-chairman of the Clinton County Republican Party, precinct committeeman; and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 101, Belleville, Ill. Mr. Kauling served in the Air Force Reserves. "Sock" retired from the Centralia Correctional Center where he had been employed as a plumber.
Mr. Kauling was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kauling; a brother, Kevin Kauling; and a niece, Susie Kauling.
Surviving are his wife, Doris, nee Haukap, whom he married March 31, 1973, at St. Boniface Church, Germantown, Ill.; a daughter, Erika Kauling of Beckemeyer; a son, Ray Kauling of Beckemeyer, Ill.; his mother, Anna, nee Kampwerth, Kauling of Carlyle, Ill.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and great-nieces, great-nephews and great-cousins.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in "Sock's" memory to the Mater Dei High School Foundation.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2003, at Frerker Funeral Home, Carlyle, Ill.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at St. Anthony Church, Beckemeyer, Ill., with Father Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Beckemeyer.
