Robert Wiegmann

Robert H. Wiegmann, 89, of New Baden, Ill., born April 2, 1927, in Lookingglass Township, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Mr. Wiegmann was an avid farmer and retired after 32 years working at Scott Air Force Base. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a Purple Heart recipient for having served in combat in the Korean War. He was a devoted member of St. George Parish in New Baden, the Albers American Legion Post 1026, Knights of Columbus in New Baden, Clinton County Farm Bureau, and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 100 in Trenton.

Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. He was happiest when on the farm, spending time with his family, and tinkering in the wood shop. Robert loved animals and playing his harmonica.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard H. "Ben" and Margaret, nee Kalmer, Wiegmann; daughter, Marlene Geppert; sisters, Valeria Korte and Verena Schrage; brothers, Herbert Wiegmann and Edmund Wiegmann; his adopted brother, Tony Bauman; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cornelius and Blanche Rensing, Herman Rensing, Jerome Rensing, Wilbert Korte, and Alvis "A.F" Thole, Al Ostermeier, and Al and Marie Norbeck.

Surviving are his wife, Joan M. Wiegmann, nee Rensing, of New Baden, whom he married Sept. 14, 1960; children, Mark (Cindy) Wiegmann of Albers, Carl (Jackie) Wiegmann of New Baden, Robert (Teresa) Wiegmann Jr. of Damiansville, Karen (Kevin) Sudholt of Albers, and Denise (Otis) Jones of Aurora, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Hunter Wiegmann, Travis Wiegmann, Kelsey (Aaron) Linnenmann, Andrew Sudholt, Robert H. Wiegmann III, Trey (Kelly) Wiegmann, Chad Wiegmann, Jordan Wiegmann, Nicole (Micah) Rincker, Logan Geppert, Brittany Jones, Natasha Jones, and Otis Jones; three great-grandchildren, Reed Rincker, Easton Wiegmann, and Zoey Wiegmann; a son-in-law, Robert Geppert of Nashville; brother, Bernard "Ben" (Helen) Wiegmann of Ottawa; sister, Irene Thole of Aviston; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Schrage of Greenville, Ralph and Genevieve "Jenny" Rensing of Alhambra, Cecilia Wiegmann of St. Rose, Pat Wise of Breese, Marge Rensing of Nashville, Janet Rensing and Eileen Rensing, both of New Baden, and Audrey Ostermeier of Georgetown, Texas.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at St. George Church in New Baden, Ill. with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, New Baden, Ill.
