Sharon Goretzke Obituary

Sharon Dawn Goretzke, 66, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Belleville, Illinois, after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma. Born on January 15, 1959, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Sharon lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Sharon was the beloved daughter of Beverly Ann Goretzke ("Sue") of Belleville and the late John Kenneth Goretzke, Sr. She was a cherished mother to Michael Scott Herbeck of Corfu, New York, and Mikayla Brianne Goretzke-Shannon of Belleville. She is also remembered with love by her sister Kathryn Elaine Scott of Belleville and sister-in-law Debra Marie Goretzke of Belleville.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father and her brother, John Kenneth Goretzke, Jr. Her legacy continues through many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and dear cousins who were touched by her warmth and generosity.

A woman of intellect and determination, Sharon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Engineering and later pursued a Master's degree in Legal Studies - an impressive testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.

Professionally, Sharon brought passion and dedication to every role she held. She worked as an assistant chef at the Shrine Restaurant in Belleville, where she shared her love for food with others. Later in life, she held various positions at Target in Shiloh until her retirement. Her work ethic was matched only by her kindness toward colleagues and customers alike.

Sharon's faith was an integral part of her life. She attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Shiloh, Illinois, where she also volunteered her time preparing food for church luncheons - a reflection of both her culinary talents and generous spirit.

Those who knew Sharon will remember her as a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend who always put others before herself. She had a heart for service and was quick to offer help wherever it was needed. Her home was often filled with the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals and the vibrant colors of handcrafted wreaths, bracelets, and candles, each piece made with care and creativity.

Much like her father before her, Sharon had a knack for fixing things around the house. A true "jack of all trades," she approached every challenge with resourcefulness and determination.

Sharon's strength shone brightest during her illness. She faced each day with courage rooted in deep faith, a testament to the enduring spirit that defined her life.

May Sharon Dawn Goretzke's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
