Shirley Loy

Shirley Loy, nee Miller, 88, of Granite City, Ill., passed away at 9:27 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill.

She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Granite City, Ill., a daughter of the late Earl and Geneva, nee Smith, Miller Sr. She married James Loy Sr., on Dec. 28, 1944, at Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City, Ill., and he survives.

Mrs. Loy was a member of the Niedringhaus United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Concors Sunday School Class as well as a Sunday School teacher and had served on various committees. She was a member of the choir for 37 years and was a member of several local choral organizations. She was a former teacher in the Granite City and Madison School Districts.

She was a graduate of Granite City High School and attended McKendree College and St. Louis University.

Surviving are her husband of more than 68 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Loy and Judy Loy of Chester, Ark., and Dr. Gary Loy and Dr. Dorion Wiley of Chicago, Ill.; two grandsons, Max Loy and Jack Loy of Chicago, Ill.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Earl and Sue Miller of Diehlstadt, Mo.; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Niedringhaus United Methodist Church and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call in celebration of her life, from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill.
