William Crane Obituary

William "Bill" Crane, Jr.

July 2, 1952 - August 12, 2025

Caseyville, Illinois - William "Bill" Joseph Crane, Jr., age 73, of Caseyville, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in his home after a long and hard battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 2, 1952, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late William and Roberta (nee Rosenkranz) Crane, Sr.

Bill was the true soulmate and steadfast rock of his wife, Tammie (nee Wilson), whom he married on December 31, 1978. The two shared an unbreakable bond, doing everything side by side and filling their life together with laughter, love, and adventure. One of their favorite shared passions was cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, whether watching games from their living room or from the stands. That love for baseball even took them across the ocean to London, where they experienced the unforgettable Cardinals–Cubs series in person. His devotion, companionship, and unwavering support made him Tammie's safe place and greatest blessing.

He was a fun-loving, patient, and mild-mannered man who was truly loved by everyone who knew him. After graduating high school, he served in the Army Reserves before beginning his career with the railroad at the age of 21. He went on to retire from Union Pacific Railroad, formerly known as Alton Southern Railroad, after 41 years of dedicated service as Manager of Operations, known for his forward-thinking approach and strong leadership. A devoted family man, he was always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed the stars and the great outdoors throughout his life, finding joy in camping, canoe trips, and other adventures in nature. In later years, he also enjoyed the camaraderie of playing horseshoes with friends. Bill especially treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Creating memories that they will carry in their hearts forever. His joyful spirit, kindness, and love for his family will be remembered always.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded by a son, Jason Crane; brother, Mike Crane; and sister, Sharon O'Connell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; three sons: Casey Crane of Caseyville, IL, William "Billy" (Amber) Crane III of Glen Carbon, IL, and Robert "Robbie" Crane of Fairview Heights, IL; 11 grandchildren: Jordan, Kailey, Alexis, Carlie, Billy, Nathan, Michaela, Abbie, Kale, Carter, and Warren; nine great-grandchildren: Lucas, Briella, Octavia, Kendall, Maliya, Paisley, Jameson, Asher, and Aveon; brother, Scott (Vickie) Schultz; sister, Linda Vistine; numerous nieces and nephews who were very special to him and Tammie – with a special thank you to his niece, Jamie Sue; and dear sisters-in-law: Gayla Kearns, and Patricia Crane.

Visitation will be held at Lake View Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, August 16, 2025, prior to the service.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lake View Funeral Home.

A luncheon will be on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Caseyville Moose Lodge #4 at 2pm.

Billy and Mike were my childhood friends growing up in the Loisel Village area in East St. Louis. We hung out and had fun. Condolences to his friends and family. He was a good guy.
