Adele Rosenquist Turner Slind
February 22, 1936 - February 22, 2024
Skagit Valley, Washington - Adele Turner Slind, a long-time resident of Skagit Valley, WA, passed away peacefully in her home the morning of her 88th birthday on February 22, 2024. She was born in Mt. Vernon on February 22, 1936 to Howard and Frances Rosenquist. Adele graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1954 and attended the University of Washington where she received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1958. She was the president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. Following college, she traveled to Germany where she joined her finance Kendall Turner, who she later married on September 16th, 1959. After Kendall's military service, they moved back to the United States where they bought their first dairy farm in Custer, WA. Adele also worked as a Social Worker for DSHS. After becoming pregnant with their first child, Adele discontinued working and became a full-time mom and assistant to her husband on the farm. They later bought a farm in Lynden, WA and had two daughters, Melissa and Shannon. Kendall and Adele eventually divorced, and in 2003 Adele married Gerald Slind, a former high school classmate. The two of them remodeled and moved into her childhood home in Edison after her mom passed away in 1999, where Adele spent the remaining 24 years of her life.
Adele is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Shannon Cline and Jim DuBois, stepdaughter Jada Ishida and husband Brent of Adrian, Oregon and their families, as well as grandchildren Danielle Erickson (Graeme) of Bothell, Dominique Martinez (Johnny) of Lake Stevens, David DuBois of Redmond, and Payton and Josie Cline of Ferndale. She also has one great grandson, Elliott Erickson who she dearly adored.
She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church for many years, where her mom was the pipe organist for over forty years. Adele and Gerald later attended Cornwall Church in Mt. Vernon.
Adele loved spending time with her family, baking delicious desserts, planting red geraniums, decorating, and bird watching from her home on the Edison slough. She also enjoyed shopping for the best sale, going to hockey games, and traveling: Mexico, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Japan. Some of her favorite times were spent out on the salt water or being with her daughters and their horses.
Adele was a very social person and best known for her carefree, fun-loving personality; she was generally considered the "life of the party" and had the sweetest smile ever.
Adele was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Slind, her two sisters, Donna Hogarth of Indiana and Carol Ross of New York, as well as her parents, Howard and Frances Rosenquist.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 PM. She will be placed to rest at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in La Connor. Memorials (in lieu of flowers) may be given to the following organization specializing in dementia care: The Bradford House, 116 N Skagit St., Burlington, WA 98233
