Barbara H. Demorest

Our mom, Barbara H. Bennett Hanson Demorest, peacefully passed away at age 91. The only child born to Harry and Ethel Bennett, she grew up on Jaeger St. and attended Columbia Elementary School, just as her father had before her. Mom graduated from Bellingham High School in 1944. And soon after married her high school sweetheart Howard Hanson. They had two deeply loved children before his unexpected death in 1966. Mom forged on working full-time mostly for Whatcom County Auditor's office until she met and married our wonderful step-dad Milt Demorest in 1976. Their years together were full of fun, family and adventurous road trips, pulling along their home on wheels. Those were some of mom's happiest memories as evidenced by her numerous handwritten journals. Mom also spent many of their evenings together creating beautifully handcrafted crochet and needlework projects. Milt passed away in 1995, and after being blessed with two wonderful husbands, mom once again carried on by herself filling her time with grand-parenting, visiting friends, card and wine parties, lots of reading and her weekly hair appointments with beloved friend Deb. Thanks to those daily crossword puzzles, her mind was sharp and her memory was clear to the very end. She loved her Ankar Community and we are so thankful to her guardian angel neighbors who so lovingly watched over here these last few years. She will be dearly missed and is survived by children Tom L. Hanson (Trynn) of Tonasket, WA; Terri L. (Hanson) Hickox of Bellingham; grandkids Jon and Jeff Hanson and Shelby and Adam Hickox, all of Bellingham; Denny (Barb) Demorest; Janine Demorest; grandkids Jeff (Christine) Demorest and Tom (Val) Demorest; Lisa (Dan) Wentworth and Josh Ransom, and seven great-grandchildren. Private inurement at Bayview Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held Nov. 3rd at 2:30 p.m. at the Ankar Park Clubhouse.
