Betty Smallwood Obituary

Betty Colleen Smallwood, age 87, of Bellingham passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, September 29th, 2017. She was born to Letitia Wood (Cox) and Clarence Wood and was the older of two children. Betty graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1950 where she played varsity softball. She married Francis (Lee) Smallwood in 1951. In addition to her primary focus on being a wife and mother, Betty and Lee were true entrepreneurs owned and operated many business adventures to include: Lake & Yew Grocery from 1958-1969, Uncle Tom's Cottages from 1960-1975, Smallwood Shores Condominiums from 1975-1997, The Smallwood Gravel from 1957-1994, and maintained rental properties majority of her life. Betty is survived by her brother; Warren Wood, three children; Tom Smallwood, Barbara Thomas and Geri Steiner, grandchildren; Letitia (Brandon), Andrew (Ronnie), George, Njal (Grant), Dane and Emilee (Adriel); and great grandchildren; Colin, Kate, Ezekiel, Enoch, Eden, Asher, Avery and Nolan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 58 years Francis (Lee) and son-in-law Joel Steiner. Betty's memorial will be held at Moles Greenacres Memorial Park (5700 Northwest Dr, Ferndale, WA 98248) on Monday, October 16th, at 9:30am.
