Danny Hayes Obituary

Danny Gene Hayes
October 8, 1950 - January 12, 2023
Ferndale, Washington - On January 12, 2023, Danny Gene Hayes was unexpectedly called home to heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while at his winter home in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Danny was born October 8, 1950, and raised in Sedro-Woolley, WA. He graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School, class of '69. He furthered his education at Bellingham Technical College for auto mechanics and began working for Mt. Baker Motors, later worked at Robinson-Chambers Chevrolet, then started Hayes Automotive, he "shifted gears" to S+H Auto Parts where he worked as a machinist and finished his career at Arco Cherry Point now known as BP Cherry Point, in the Machine Shop, where he retired in May of 2012.
Danny married Julie Thompson on February 16, 1973. Together they enjoyed jeep club, motorcycle rides and camping. They have three children: Jason (Michelle), Aaron (Brooke) and Lindsay (Randy). In total they have 11 grandchildren with whom they enjoy many activities.
Dan was known for his hard work, his strive for excellence, love for winning, innovative creations, impressive whistling skills, "do it right the first time" attitude, his catch phrases, his love for breakfast and grilled salmon, his faithfulness, generosity, honesty, helping anyone in need. He loved a challenge, Dan the Man or Big D as he was affectionately known, was a problem solver with the ability to fix just about anything. His faith in the Lord was strong, reading the Bible, Our Daily Bread and praying on his knees for his family and friends every morning.
His passions included music (drummer and singer), skiing, biking (European tour, Rails to Trails), RVing (traveling across the U.S. three times; seeing all but five states), boating, fishing, crabbing, coaching, mole hunting (losing two fingers in one battle-hence the nickname Uncle Stubs), flying (ultralight aircraft, R/C), pickleball and card playing, puzzles/sudoku, reading, traveling, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren.
He will be missed by so many including his brothers Gary (Molly), Wayne (Pam), Ray (Rose) and sister Peggy, his in-laws (or out-laws), many nieces, nephews, countless friends and of course his wife, kids, and grandkids.
A celebration of life gathering will be held this summer in Ferndale, Washington.
Oh, and by the way, "It's been a long time since breakfast".

I'm sorry for your loss. I remember Danny as a super cool guy from Mt. Baker Motors in the 70's. As a matter of fact I still glance over at the house he lived in on NW when I drive by after about 50 years. I lost track of Danny but am not surprised by how much he is loved. Reading his story here makes me thankful once again for his life. One never knows the impact you make on people. I'm so sorry for your loss!

This news shook me the day I heard it here at work. I worked with Danny since 2003 when I hired in with BP. From pump jobs to eventually sitting with him in planning, every day was fun with Mr. Perfect. I saw him a couple summers ago and he was the same guy, but with a beard instead of just the mustache. So many fond memories. Thinking of his family at this time. I hope you're having a great time wherever you are DAN!!!!!!!!!

I was sad to hear about Danny's death but rejoice that he is now with Jesus. Neal died on October 19. 2021 so I know what you are experiencing. My prayers will be with you as you learn to adjust to a life without him. It isn't easy but doable with God's help,

Very very sorry for your loss Julie and the Hayes family. Danny was one of my favorite people to work with, we spent many hours, days, weeks and years together. He was always competitive and eager to do the job right. Hence his nickname at work Mr. perfect and 110. He always went 110% on every job, we had to do it to perfection. His competitiveness fell on over to our fishing trips also. I had much fun competing with "Dan the man" he is and will be missed.
