Donna Schultz Obituary

Donna Schultz

February 16, 1934 - May 6, 2025

Bellingham, Washington - Donna Mae Schultz of Bellingham, Washington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Alderwood Park Health and Rehabilitation in Bellingham at the age of 91.

Donna was the daughter of Irene Jacobson and granddaughter of Mary Bergman. She was preceded in death by her husband Allan and their son Jeffrey. She is survived by her daughter Kathi, son Gary, his wife Sylvia, and grandchildren Linnea and Claire, as well as many other cherished relatives and friends.

Donna was born in Minneapolis and grew up near the Minnesota farming community of Upsala, where she graduated from high school. In 1951, she married Allan in Upsala. Soon after their marriage, she moved to Southern California to join her "ideal husband" who was stationed there serving in the United States Marine Corps. After Allan's military service ended, they settled in Arcadia, CA to raise their three children. In addition to caring for the family, Donna sang in the William Hall Chorale and served as PTA president, girl scout leader, and volunteer for many other organizations, all while planning epic road trips and frequent family camping trips.

After their son Jeff died at the age of 19, Donna and Allan began working with other families who were grieving, first in Southern California, then in Spokane, WA. Later they moved to Hardrock, AZ in the Navajo Nation where they served as missionaries for six years. This became a major highlight of their lives. Their hearts never left the indigenous community and they continued serving as missionaries and hospital chaplains in Albuquerque, NM. She wrote about this period in her book Centipedes in the Bathtub. After retirement, they moved to Bellingham, WA where they were able to spend valuable time with people of the Lummi Nation.

Donna was an active member of Bellingham Covenant Church where she was embraced and cared for by the congregation in amazing ways. Their support and concern helped her achieve her goal of living independently in her own home until just before her final illness.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on June 14 at the Bellingham Covenant Church, 1530 East Bakerview Road, Bellingham, WA 98226 with Pastor Paul Petersen officiating. It will also stream on https://youtube.com/live/J9NQo2ZXqgk?feature=share
