My husband and daughter and I were neighbors of Ed and Etelka for seven years. Ed was always so kind to all of us, as was Etelka. He always had a sweet greeting for our daughter, and kindness and good humor in his conversations with us. He was always ready to help when help was needed. He and
Etelka were family to us. Good [people are never forgotten. We will always remember E and E.T.

To Family & Friends of Ed Souve..
I saw Ed's picture in the B'ham Herald & my feelings & memories led me to send my sympathy & prayers. I'm hoping that someone in the family will remember me. I remember Ed vividly. I lived up the alley from Art & Mabel when I grew up.
I spent many hours at their house playing with their grand-daughter Roxie! I remember young Art & Loretta & how she was involved with the theatre guild in town. Roxie had beautiful dolls we play'd with & fancy clothes for them. She also play'd at my house in our big glassed in front porch, sometimes with another friend of ours, Helen! Ed, I remember was especially involved with baseball! I was so young & he was this extremely tall, good looking guy. He would bounce in & out of the house & always had time to say Hi & chat with us girls! I have great memories of him giving his Mom a bad time & I feel I can still hear them laughing! I also can see him clearly with a girl he married they call'd "POOK-SIE"!They were so CUTE together as she was so little & he was soooo tall! It was a great time in my life growing up in that neighborhood! I can still see Roxie with her pony-tail swing'n walk'n up the alley to my house.
I noticed she is living in Florida! A long ways from our old neighborhood! My maiden name was GERNER! Hopefully, if Roxie see's this she will remember? I have 3 children & 7 grand-children & was married 32 years before my husband passed away in 2003. I have a significant other & am enjoying life again & especially my precious grand-kids! I didn't mean to write a book, but seeing Ed's picture & having so many super memories of him & his family, I was compelled to write & express how I REMEMBER Ed Souve! I hope you all can find PEACE during this difficult time, knowing HE HAS!

Family & Friends of Ed Souve: Ed was always there for my son, Bryan Marriott, who was killed in 2009. He came to his funeral and told great stories about Bryan. His stories help me smile every day and remember good things that Bryan did while he was here. I hope you will hold Ed’s goodness in your hearts as you celebrate his LIFE! Peace,

I had the pleasure of knowing Ed as family years ago. We had many wonderful games of golf together both in Bellingham and in Duncan.
He shot hoops with my boys when they were young, took us to a Mariners' game and had us all in stitches with his contagious laughter at "City Slickers" in Bellingham.
I learned how to really give a car a good wash from Ed...
He was an awesome guy and a great uncle to my boys: Brandon, Dominic and Garret.
A wonderful, wonderful man...

Dearest Mel, ET and the rest of your wonderful family, I am so sad regarding Ed's passing. He was LARGER than LIFE and the most wonderful person. I don't think that there is one person in this entire world that can say a bad thing about Ed Souve. He had a heart of gold and was the most positive person I know.

When my kids and I went to visit him three weeks ago, it wasn't about hin or his pain (and he was in tremendous pain). He wanted to talk to Houston about his baseball and Indy about her school. Ed never put the focus on him but made you feel like you were special. The truth is, he was the special one. He will be greatly missed.

After we left his house three weeks ago, my kids said "That Ed Souve is Awesome! What a great guy!". I explained to them that they have known Ed their whole lives. He and ET used to show up to each and every one of their birthday parties when we lived in Bellingham and would bring the best gifts. Complete Gymboree outfits from head to toe..Hats, swim trucks and swim shoes. They went above and beyond and and it will never be forgotten.

About 2 months ago, I dialed a phone number that I knew by heart and thought was for the Bellingham Herald. 360-671-6600. Turns out it was Ed Souve's number. When he answered I knew I had dialed incorrectly but instead of hanging up I instantly recognized his joyful voice and said "Ed". He was happy to hear from me and I was happy that I had dialed him by mistake. We had a nice chat.

His passing away at such a young age was also a mistake. God must have a need for him in Heaven. Maybe he needs Ed to teach him his golf swing.

We miss you Ed. Lynn, Houston and Indy.

I was a long time friend of Ed's, starting when we were at Fairhaven Junior High School. We had many great times during those years, spending time talking on the phone, exchanging birthday and Christmas gifts and picking berries in the summer. It was a unique and special friendship that we had. After many years, we were lucky enough to make contact again through emails. I looked forward to hearing from him with his adventures, pictures and videos. We would reminisce about our beloved south side and never ran out of stories of the good times we had there. One time he sent me his 1st grade class picture from Larrabee School and tested me on how many I could recognize. I told him after 68 years, most had changed somewhat so I was at a disadvantage. I sent back my 6th grade class picture from Lowell and said he would have an advantage, as they were older and easier to recognize. This is just some of the many fun and crazy experiences we shared. He was so proud of his family and I felt I got to know them from the many pictures he sent me. I enjoyed the ones from Hawaii, Tahoe, his trip to the winter Olympics, and all his other travels. So many stories and pictures that I will dearly miss. I will never forget this kind and fun person, and I was very lucky to have him as my friend.

Dad... You were such an awesome Dad! Many times I think about the fun we had camping, going to Mariner, Seahawk, and Husky games. Thank you so much for teaching me and my kids your smooth golf swing. Thank you so much for showing by example what a positive mental attitude can mean to a person's life. Thank you for giving everything you had to your kids and family. For being a good man, who everyone you came in contact always had something good to say about you.. Thank you for "stopping to smell the flowers" and enjoying life, especially these last few years. You are an amazing man with a fighting spirit that I will always remember. May your life be prolonged by the legacy that you leave behind......You may be gone...BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!! Dad...I LOVE YOU!!! Ryan

My Dad was such a fine example of a life well lived. So gracious, kind, generous, funny and loved life every minute. I am thankful to have such a fine example of a great man and father growing up. From him I learned about the importance of having a sense of humor, being enthusiastic, having a sense of curiosity and adventure, working hard, being positive and truly appreciating each day on earth. I am blessed to have the wonderful relationship we shared. I am so thankful to Etelka, Myrna and Dave, whom helped him to carry out his amazing "Bucket List" My Dad was so fortunate to travel, golf and experience so much. Thank-you to all his neighbors and the Doctors & Nurses who cared for him so wonderfully. I am thankful that Dad had a energetic, happy day on the last day of August. We had a wonderful conversation, concluded with "I LOVE YOU". I feel fortunate to have spent so much time with my Dad. RIP Ed Souve
I am so proud and lucky to be your daughter. I love you and miss you. You will always be in my soul and heart.

I met Ed 2 years ago at Shuksan Golf Course. A true gentleman with one of the most beautiful golf swings I've ever seen. Bumped into him again last year, had the pleasure of his company one more time. One of his good friends, in our group, told me of his status. Ironically, and unknowingly I was playing golf at Shuksan, September 1st, when Ed passed away. Perhaps that will be the portal for Ed to pass on his wonderful golf swing to me. Bless you Ed Souve, you and your swing will be remembered.

Ed and Etelka were our neighbors for 8 years when we lived on Birch Street. They were wonderfully kind, and in that time, were like an extension of our family. We saw each other every day, and always had a special Christmas time get together. Ed was a wonderful, friendly, warm person. Our sympathies to his children and Etelka.
