Floyd John Bouma, 89, of Lynden passed away at his home, from a large intracranial bleed, on Friday, December 28, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:15 pm, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service at Second Christian Reformed Church, 8th & Front St. in Lynden with Pastor Ben DeRegt officiating.
Floyd was born in Lynden on June 16, 1923 to Herman and Ernestine (Zweegman) Bouma. A 1941 Lynden High School graduate; he enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and was discharged in 1945. On August 11, 1948 Floyd married Alice Heutink in Lynden.
Employed by Mt. Baker Silo Co. for many years; Floyd also operated a dairy farm. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking Mt. Baker, swimming and camping at the Zweegman property at Birch Bay. Chinese Checkers and Dominoes were favorite games. Floyd was a charter member of Second Christian Reformed Church; where he attended Bible Studies and served as an elder and deacon.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice; children, Herman (Ellen), Pat (Sue), Nelva, Dave (Joyce), Louis, Tim (Shiena), Nancy (Scott), James and Mark (Steph); grandchildren, Josh, Cory, Sarah (Feenstra), Grace, Mary, John and Elizabeth (Adams); and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Clayton and Isabel. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John and sisters Micki (Torrance), Leone (Hendricks) and Ruth (Andre).
