Frank Muljat Obituary

Frank Muljat Jr.

March 5, 1945 - October 14, 2025

Bellingham, Washington - Frank Muljat Jr., known affectionately as "Papa," passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 80 years old. He will always be a man known for his unwavering convictions, his bright smile, his generous and encouraging spirit, and his enduring love for family and friends. He was our rock.

Frank was born on March 5, 1945, in Long Beach, California, the son of Frank Muljat Sr. and Mary Zuanich. Of proud Croatian heritage, he grew up in a commercial fishing family and learned the trade from a young age. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1963. By his late teens, he was already working on the water, and at just 18 years old, he captained his own commercial fishing boat. That same year, he also earned his real estate license - a reflection of his remarkable drive and entrepreneurial spirit.

While attending Bellingham High School, Frank met his lifelong sweetheart, Sandee Victor - a love that grew deeper with every year. In 1967, they were married at the Church of the Assumption, beginning a beautiful life founded in faith in God, love and commitment. They enjoyed 58 years together.

After completing his Army National Guard training in Alexandria Virginia, they settled in Bellingham and began growing their family together. They enjoyed countless trips to their second home on Maui, where they met wonderful friends and enjoyed the pace of the islands. They loved sharing this special place with friends and family.

Frank practiced real estate for nearly 60 years. In 1987, he founded The Muljat Group, where he loved the people, the real estate business and problem-solving. Frank had several nicknames: "Big Smooth" and "Friendly Frank". He was also known as "Focus Frank" for his get-it-done-now attitude. He built a legacy grounded in honesty, warmth, and professionalism. His office door was always open – for a quick chat, a business idea, or just to talk about life.

Frank was a mentor and father figure to many. He found great joy in teaching others to appreciate the things he loved - water skiing, snow skiing, and the art of real estate.

Frank was a devoted and strong husband, father and grandfather. Nothing brought him greater joy than being part of his three children and eleven grandchildren's lives - whether attending their events, lending a helping hand, or spending time together around the table, he cherished every moment they shared.

Frank overcame three forms of cancer and numerous other health challenges. Even in his final days, Frank was joyful, positive, and grateful. Frank was a fighter to the end.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Sandee; his children, Troy (Heather), Alesha (Adam), and Lindsey (Trevor) and his cherished grandchildren; Cameron, Chloe, Marissa, Bryce, Luke, Sadie, Mia, Clara, Elliot, Starryn, and Maven. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nick. Memorial donations may be made to: Fredhutch.org; together.uw.edu/campaign/heart-health or BeTheOneToday.org. Frank leaves an indelible memory with all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. A stalwart of a man, with a large and generous heart, who embodied the very best of Whatcom County. Frank possessed a keen sense of humor and never took himself too seriously, a quality that always made him fun to be around. His wonderful and amazing family is testament to his exceptional fatherhood, and as a friend, always loyal, he will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Thank you Frank for gracing this world.
