Jeanne Martin Obituary

Jeanne Martin lost her thirteen-year battle with Parkinson's disease last Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Mira Vista Care Center, where a weeklong bout of pneumonia ended her life.
Jeanne was born in Bellingham on March 29, 1924 to Mary and Andy Martin and was the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943 and worked as a telephone operator and supervisor for the West Coast Telephone Company in Bellingham and Bremerton during WWII.
She married Jack Martin in 1950 and moved to Mount Vernon where they raised their two children. She then went back to work with Jack and his brother Val as office manager for the Martin Oil Company, a long time family business in Skagit Valley.
Jeanne and Jack shared many activities, including camping in their little vacation trailer and cruising the San Juan Islands when the children were small. Later on they moved to the Skagit Valley Golf & Country Club in Burlington. Enjoyable time was spent at a time-share apartment in Kauai. Trips to Europe and a paddle wheel boat trip down the Mississippi are some of the activities Jeanne was able to enjoy. A beach cabin at Samish Island was also a nearby retreat that Jeanne enjoyed with her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters, Mike, Pearl, Harold, Clara, Cecil, Vernon, Doris and Marianne.
Survivors included her husband, Jack Martin, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Arnie Donovan; grandson, Matt Donovan; granddaughter, Kelsey Hanstead and her husband Garrett; great granddaughter, Kyzie Jean; son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Martin, granddaughters, Tarra and Alayna Martin. Jeanne is also survived by over fifty nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to the staffs of Home Attendant Care, especially Elizabeth, Deborah and Marie and Visiting Angles, especially Charlie, Verna and Marla, for enabling her to stay at home for as long as she could. At her request there will be no funeral service. Cremation and inurnment in the family plots at Mount Vernon Cemetery will be handled by Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.

Dear Uncle Jack, Cousins Jackie, John and family,

You know how special Aunt Jeanne was to all of us. There is no replacing her. She gave so much to her family, including sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Her legacy reminds me of Grandma Mary Martin Holmes…we all thought as Grandchildren, we were her “favorite”. Aunt Jeanne just made you feel that way too. I have many good memories of “baby sitting” my younger cousins on our trips (in the “4 J’s” travel trailer) to Canada and Yellow Stone Park in the 60’s, and Aunt Jeanne insisting on “all” eating our prunes daily!

Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Jack were always there to help others, including my Mom. I thank God we had so many times to be with her and the Martin family, and cherish those memories, especially the recent family get-together at Samish Island. Aunt Jeanne was so happy to see everyone. She was sincerely loving, caring, and always a delight to be around. I will miss her dearly, but know she is in “good company”. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Hope time will heal your loss with her passing. Mom would say, “Jeanne was the last of the 3 little girls”.

Love, Cousin Lynda Jeanne Weber-Ferry

To Jack, Jackie and Arnie, John and Nancy and Jeanne's grandchildren,
Paul and I were saddened to hear about Aunt Jeanne's death. She leaves an empty spot in each of our lifes but she lives on in a special spot in our memories and hearts.

I hope that each of you are comforted knowing that she is in a much better place, celebrating her homecoming to heaven with her mom and dad, sisters and brothers.

Paul and Karen
