Karen Hunt Obituary
Karen grew up in Mill Valley California, graduating from Mt. Tamalpais High School in 1956. She moved to Bellingham in 1963 with her husband and three children. They opened Dos Padres Restaurant in 1973, she left the restaurant in 1980 to work as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement. She then worked part time for meals on wheels.
Karen's connection to nature began early with camping trips to northern California rivers and forests with her aunt, uncle and cousins. She loved being outdoors, especially near the water, and shared this love with her kids and grandkids.
Karen saw the beauty around her and it showed in her art. She had a thirst for learning and creating art of all kinds.Through art she found a large group of very close friends. She sought to find the best in others and rarely spoke ill of anyone. Karen was great at remembering birthdays, often with a handmade card or gift. She inspired others to lead a creative life.
She lived many years in the close knit Orchard Terrace Condo community and made many friends there. Tom Jeffreys, a neighbor and artist, became a close friend and companion in later years.
Karen is survived by son Gordon (wife Sandra) Martinez, of Mount Vernon; son Joel (wife Araceli) Hunt, of Pompano Beach, Florida; daughter Ann (husband Richard) Lira, of Bellingham; and grandchildren Alicia (husband Lauri) Fryxell; Zach (wife Jasmyne) Martinez; Andre Hunt; Jenny (husband Robby) Stevenson; and great grandchildren Rowen and Siri Fryxell, Alex Martinez, Riz Stevenson. Karen is also survived by her sister Nancy (husband Ed) Wolf of California and their family.
