Sumas, Washington - Kelly Gene Handerson of Sumas, WA died suddenly on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the age of 66yrs. Kelly was born March 11, 1958 to Bert and Bonnie Handerson in Bellingham, WA. Kelly served in the U.S. Navy for four years and went on to marry Debbie Hensley March 12, 1982. Kelly worked locally in Sumas and always lived life to the fullest. He always worked hard and played harder. Kelly was an avid fisherman, enjoyed time on his boat, scuba diving, watching the Seattle Seahawks and spending time with family and friends. Kelly leaves behind his wife Debbie of 42yrs, Daughter Monica (Matt), grandchildren Marcos, Celia, Riley, Brothers Ronald (Kari), Terry, Jeff (Val), sister Cindy (Joe), sister in law Joni (Gary) and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial for Kelly will be held in Whatcom County on a later date TBD.

I used to work with Kelly at Great Western Lumber Company.
We pulled lumber together and the just the two of us worked at banding up cedar siding. Kelly had a dry humor that had me laughing like hell! Kelly was truly a joy to work with, working right along with me. He made the day fly by. I wish I had kept up with him, so sad to see he´s gone. Rest easy, my good friend...love you, man.

Never thought I would have to imagine life without you in it Dad. I love you and miss you so much. Thank you for being such an important part of my life for 44yrs. You taught me strength, patience, compassion, and love for which I am forever thankful and grateful for. All of our time together fishing, boating, being on the farm with you, and spending time learning everything I could from you was a lifetime of loving memories I will hold on to forever.
