Mary Elizabeth Burger

Mary Burger Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Burger, of Sumas, Washington, passed away on Monday, December 6. She was 81 yeas old. Liz, a lifetime resident of Sumas, knew her town's history inside and out. She was like a book in and of herself, and as a librarian and mail carrier, she remembered every name on the 746 mailboxes she served. She was upbeat, and could visit with anyone. She was never sick, never complained, and often said "Whoopee!" at just the right time. Liz was very family-oriented and loved her grandkids and never said no to them. She loved books, magazines, plants, and collectibles, and had a fascination with the Royal Family. She especially loved to bake her sticky buns, apple pie, and cinnamon sauce. Liz will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 yeas, Don; son, Don E. (Viki) Burger; grandchildren Scott (Heather) Burger, Steven Burger, and Shannon (and fiancé Jamie Olson) Burger; great-grandchildren Talor, Kaylana, Phillip, Victoria, and Sydney. A Graveside Committal will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 1:00 PM, at Sumas Cemetery, and a Celebration of Liz's life will be held Sunday, December 12, 2010, at 1:00 PM, at Clearbrook Lutheran Church, 9691 Van Buren Rd. (at Halverstick), Lynden, WA 98264. Memorial gifts may be made in Liz's honor to the Clearbrook Lutheran Memorial Fund. Good Steward Funerals, Lynden

Don - I am glad for Liz that she lived such a full life. I remember her as being a "live one" in the old congregation that I knew growing up. She had no fear of the color purple nor black and always presented herself as a lady. She had a special place in my Grandparents heart as well as the hearts of others.
Please take care - my sincere thoughts are with you and your family, Sonja (Leininger) Dyer aka: to Liz - Sony

Dear Don and family,
So sorry to learn of Liz's passing, I always enjoyed chatting with her at the library or where ever. She always called my husband "George" and both Giulio and I got a kick out of that. I think because at first she couldn't remember his name. She really was quite a lady and she did have an incredible memory.
May it comfort you to know that she is no longer suffering. God Bless all of you.
Sincerely, Ethel Gobbato

Love to each one of you. Liz has been a very special friend for many years. We had so much fun working together at the Bank in the 1960's! Sorry I can't attend any of the functions as we are in eastern WA for two more weeks. Know that we will be thinking of you. We know these past months have been difficult times and ask that you take some time for yourselves and get some rest. Love and prayers Don & Shirley Nielsen
