Ned Russell Obituary

Ned Russell, age 64, passed away quickly and unexpectedly at his Bellingham home on Monday September 27th, 2010. He was born to the late Ned Russell Sr. and Irene [Ambrose] Russell on October 18th, 1945 in Independence Kansas. The 5th of 9 children, Ned learned early to overcome hardship and recognize what mattered most in life. His mother instilled in him lessons of faith, kindness, character, patriotism, and responsibility that carried him forward. In 1966, several years after discharge from the Navy, Ned's travels brought him to Custer, WA. Through a friend he met Marilyn Thompson and following her graduation from FHS in 1967 they were married. With only a few hand tools he began building their future doing what he knew so well; drywall. As a true artisan he built his business and reputation over the next 43 years. There are few places in Whatcom County that don't bear the fruit of his labors. He made lasting friendships and connections in the building community that still exist today. He always held the dream to be a builder himself and saw that dream realized before his passing. Ned served on the board of the Whatcom County BIA for a term, was a member of The Gold Prospector's Association and of the NRA. He enjoyed all things outdoors, in particular fishing, hunting, hiking, taking in the scenery, bird watching and rock hunting. He loved flowers and took pride in his roses and irises. Above all he cherished his family. His grandchildren Chris Cherry, Charlie Herrin, Jack Herrin and Jenny Cherry were the highlights of his life and the joys of his heart. Doing anything with and for them brought him great pleasure. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marilyn, his son Raad Russell of Bellingham, daughter Raynelle [Steve] Herrin of Virginia, and daughter Michelle [Bill] Cherry of Bellingham. He also leaves 8 siblings [Shirley Sieting, Dena Trippett, Wayne Russell, Wilma Reeder, William Russell, Sharon Finch, Gerald Russell and Robert Russell], as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. Ned loved his family well and his passing has impacted our hearts deeply, but we know he has found everlasting peace and joy at home with his Lord in heaven. A memorial service will be held at the Good News Fellowship, 1252 W. Axton Road Ferndale, on Friday October 15th at 2:00 pm. The family would like to welcome all who may want to attend and send a heartfelt "thank you" for the tremendous outpouring of support received during our time of grief.
