Rodney Campbell Obituary

We lost our Eagle Scout and longtime Rotarian on November 18, 2015 in El Dorado Hills at 82 years of age. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Rod had experienced declining health for over 2 years, but remained upbeat, optimistic, and complaint-free to his last days. Rod was born in Tacoma, Washington on July 11, 1933 to Carl and Lois (Lawson) Campbell. They also had two other children, Gwen and Corinne. Rod Campbell spent most of his early years in Bellingham, Washington prior to finishing his education at the University of Washington in 1955 with a degree in Business. Rod married Sally, his high school sweetheart, in 1954 and they had four children - Brian, Scott, Wendy and Craig. Sally preceded Rod in death in 2003, after being married over 48 years. Rod is survived by his sisters, children, and seven grandchildren - Megan, Jeffrey, Lindsey, Sean, Shaler, Jared and Ian. He was an avid sports enthusiast (go Huskies) and ever-present fan at his children or grandchildren's sporting events. Rod will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends from the grandstands, as he never met a stranger in his life. Following in his father's footsteps, Rod spent his first 23 years after college working for JC Penney and moving his family throughout the West. Rod started Jones-Campbell Co. in 1981, selling education and office furniture. Rod loved to spend time outdoors and led many a hike with his wife and kids in tow. The Campbells camped frequently, visiting most of the national parks. Rod was also active with the Boy Scouts, both as a child and later in life with his sons, even attending the first ever Boy Scout National Jamboree. He took pride in demonstrating how to get a campsite (or anything for that matter) "squared away." Rotary was a large part of Rod's life, earning the Paul Harris Fellow recognition for service. Rod continued his passion for service with his involvement in his Church and Habitat for Humanity. He loved helping to build and repair houses, both locally and in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. His family will miss his community spirit and looks forward to continuing to volunteer in his memory. A special thank you to Sunny Hill Home Care for their compassionate and loving care in Rod's final years. We are forever grateful. Services will be held at Foothills United Methodist Church, 3301 Green Valley Road in Rescue CA, 95672 on December 4, 2015 at 11:00AM, with a reception celebrating his life immediately to follow at the church.
