Janesville, WI - Donald E. Striegel, a man known for his big smile, warm heart, and even bigger appetite. He passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was 62 years old.
Born on February 23, 1963, Don grew up on the north side of La Crosse, Wisconsin, where his roots ran deep and friendships ran strong. He graduated from Logan High School in 1981, where he proudly played football.
In 1985, Don moved to Beloit to be closer to his fiancé, Linda Wallis, who was teaching there. He attended Blackhawk Technical College and worked in construction before taking a job at Rath Manufacturing.
On July 11, 1987, Don and Linda married, beginning a beautiful journey together that included three children-Johnathan (Brittney), Jennifer, and Jessica-who were the pride and joy of his life.
Don began working for Rath Manufacturing in 1990, where he not only built a career but found a tight-knit group of friends who became like family. For over 15 years, Don and his Rath friends, along with their spouses, enjoyed a monthly dinner club filled with laughter, stories, and plenty of good food-Don was always known as "the guy with the big appetite," a title he wore proudly. Those bonds with friends will always be cherished.
He loved the open road and made sure to share that love with his family. From visiting every state east of the Mississippi to exploring the beauty of the Southwest, family road trips were always an adventure, filled with laughter, quirky stops, and unforgettable memories. Annual trips to Florida often included lots of sea, sun and family time.
An avid outdoorsman, Don found peace in deer hunting on his family farm, especially in his beloved two-story treehouse, alongside his dad, brothers, and son. He also cherished the annual fishing trips to Rice Lake, Wisconsin with his children, building traditions that will be passed down for generations.
Don's circle of friends extended to the Friendly Tap, where he held the unofficial titles of "maintenance man" and "cabana boy." With a Miller Lite in hand and a story always ready, Don made everyone feel welcome. He had a gift for conversation and a knack for lifting the spirits of those around him.
A proud supporter of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers,, Don also enjoyed cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers and following NASCAR. Whether it was game day or race day, he brought his signature energy and passion to every moment. He is well known for his stereo in the man cave (Crab Hole) blasting 80s rock, especially AC/DC.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Linda, and their children: Johnathan (Brittney), Jennifer, and Jessica. He was a proud grandfather to three delightful grandchildren: Benjamin, Addilynn, and Jameson. He is also survived by his siblings Bonnie (Jan), Jean Worth (Jeff), Mike (Sherry), and David (Bobbi Jo); his in-laws Keith Nolte (Sue), Janet Kobylka (Joe), Doug Newsom, and Steve Wallis (Stacey); and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Joyce Striegel, his sister Sue Nolte, sister in law Nancy Newsom as well as grandparents and cousins.
Don was the kind of person who left people better than he found them-with a smile, a story, or a helping hand. His legacy lives on in the laughter he sparked, the memories he made, and the love he gave so freely.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, 21 S. Austin Rd, Janesville, with a visitation on Friday, November 7th from 4-6 pm and Saturday, November 8th from 10-11am.
