Charles Fabiano Obituary

Charles E. Fabiano 1928 - 2008 HOOSICK FALLS Charles E. Fabiano entered into eternal rest on Oct. 6. He was born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. on Aug. 24, 1928 to Charles and Mary Fabiano. His father died prior to his birth and his mother when he was four years old. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Philip and Mary Arico. He graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and entered the Marine Corps in 1947. He took the entrance exams for the Naval Academy and was accepted at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Bandridge, M.D. After passing the courses, he attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis as part of the class of 1952. Even though he only attended Annapolis for two years before being released for medical reasons, these years made a lifelong impression on him. When his youngest son attended Annapolis, he coordinated annual Army/Navy football game outings. Charlie married the former Helen Kehoe of Bennington, Vt., and they raised seven children. Charlie retired from Union Carbide in Bennington after 32 years. Charlie was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion, and Moose Lodge and was a well-known bartender. He watched several generations of families celebrate holidays and birthdays. He was a volunteer with the Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad. He was a member of the NY State Guard and retired a Colonel. Many of the young boys in town played on his Little League team, the Yankees where he earned his nickname "Knuckles". During the spring and summer, one would find Charlie in his garden that was the talk of the town. After his retirement, he and Helen would travel to visit their children. They moved to FL in 2000. Charlie is predeceased by his beautiful bride, Helen, in 2003 and his loving grandson, Benjamin Fullem, in 2007. He is now reunited with them and the parents he didn't have a chance to know. He leaves his children, Philip and Lisa Fabiano, Mary Ellen and Brian Hausler, Charlie and Jill Fabiano, Joe Fabiano, Nancy Fullem, Donna and John Stephenson, and Tony and Terry Fabiano. He has 13 remaining grandchildren and one great-grandson. He also leaves his pets Dude, Sassy, and Sam. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Palm Bay, Fla., on Oct. 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at his home, 1505 Sumter Lane, West Melbourne, FL 32904. Graveside committal services will follow that afternoon at 4 p.m. at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL. Arrangements are in the care of SOUTH BREVARD FUNERAL HOME in Melbourne, FL. My deepest sympathies to the Fabiano family. Some of my fondest memories were going back to HF and spending time talking to Mr. Fabiano at Saluzzo's. He was extremely proud of Tony entering and graduating from his alma mater, the Naval Academy. He was the first person my dad ever met when first arriving in Hoosick Falls. A larger than life guy who lived the fullest of lives. He will deeply be missed!

And nothing seems the same,
But when God calls us one by one,

My thoughts and prayers are with all the Fabiano family.
I personally reflect on the days when Charlie and I bartended together. We had many wonderful stories. Charlie touched many lives in those days as I am sure he did throughout his life. He was a friend, confidant and adviser to many young people who may not otherwise have heard such encouragement.
Charlie was a good, kind person and will be missed by many.
