Charles Frazier Obituary

Charles F. Frazier

1946-2015 WOODFORD Charles F. Frazier, 68, a resident of Route 9 in Woodford, Vt. died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington after a long illness surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Bennington, Vt. September 10, 1946, the son of the late Eli Maurice and Sarah (Buck) Frazier. Charlie received his education in Bennington and was a 1964 graduate of Bennington Catholic High School where he was a basketball player. In September of 1964 Charlie joined the United States Navy where he served for four years during the Vietnam War where he was part of the Beach Jumper Unit. He married the former Roberta "Bert" Philburt at Saint Peter's Church in Rutland, Vt. on April 20, 1968. In earlier years Charlie was employed as a diesel mechanic at Dailey's in Shaftsbury, Vt. and while living in Florida worked as a mechanic in Orlando. He later decided he would rather drive the trucks instead of working on them. For the majority of his career he was an owner operator transporting everything from wood pulp to every day groceries. Through the 1970's fuel shortage he and his co truck drivers played a crucial role in supplying fuel to Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York. In the 1980's and 1990's he contracted with Commercial Carriers and also with companies like Miller Supply and Steady Transport. In 1998 he was injured and forced to retire. He was a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge and was a member of the VFW Post 1332. Through Charlie's 50's and 60's he and wife, Roberta traveled from coast to coast on their Harley Davidson motorcycle enjoying all of what the U.S. had to offer. Charlie's other hobbies included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, boating, camping, playing golf, along with sponsoring Frazier MX racing. Charlie also enjoyed bird watching. Yes, later in life Charlie would enjoy sitting in the addition he and friends built watching birds and other wild animals. Survivors include his wife, Roberta "Bert" Frazier of Woodford; three sons, Jeffrey T. Frazier and his wife, Robin Ann of Forestdale, Vt., Dwayne J. Frazier and his wife Christine, of Bennington, Vt. and Bradley J. Frazier and his fiancee, Jaymie Marie Coulston of Arundel, Maine; three grandchildren, Colby J. Frazier and his fiancee Brittany Truman, Dillon J. Frazier and Jessica Lindsey Frazier; a great-grandson, Aydin James Frazier; a brother-in-law, Arthur W. Philburt of Rutland, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Ann Howland and her husband, Wayne of Brandon, Vt.; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Christopher "CJ" Frazier. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. The entombment will take place in Park Lawn Chapel with the burial and military honors to be offered in the spring at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday, February 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire contributions in memory of Charles F. Frazier may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201. Bertie,

The reminder of your husband's passing came up on my e-mail recently, and, and I wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you. No matter how much, or how little, time has passed, so many memories come flooding past when the anniversary arrives. You and your husband shared the deepest loss two parents can have, but from what I have read your life in many respects was truly an adventure. If you have the chance, check out the music and lyrics of Josh Groban's song To Where You Are. It really helps me when I remember someone very special I have lost. Take care. Sherry

Bert ... You once said "work hard and play harder" and you and Charlie lived up to those words. You have many wonderful years of those memories. Bertie,
Bill and I heard of your loss from Nini. Even though you are experiencing unbearable loss, you seem to have had a remarkable life together. The mental picture of the two of you going cross country on a Harley is remarkable. It is one that very few people in life can match - how did you ever do it! Put that adventure with raising four boys, and you have a life well-lived for sure. You have been truly blessed.
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers...

I would watch in awe:)He was so full of life and even tho we saw each other in passing times throughout the years it was a feeling of great pleasure when we would chance meet in a store, etc. Bert you have always been someone I admired and if there is anything I can do for you please let me know!!!!
