Dawn Gilbert Obituary
1943 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS NY Dawn E. "Dawnie" Gilbert 71, passed away on Sunday Nov. 9 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. She resided on the River Road with her husband, Donald Gilbert. Dawn was born on Aug. 25, 1943 in Troy, N.Y.,daughter of the late Edward and Violet (Dundas) Baker. She received her Associates Degree from Casanova College. Dawn operated an Early Childcare Business from her home for many years and provided many children with their educational start. Dawn was a lifetime member of the West Hoosick Baptist Church and attended the Hoosick Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the West Hoosick Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Choir and held many other positions at the church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Survivors other than her husband, Don, include their children, Tracey (Dave) Wheatley of Watervliet, N.Y.; son, Erik (Kristen) Gilbert of Albany, N.Y.; brother, Donald (Paula) Baker of Hoosick Falls; also two grandchildren, Ben Wheatley and Sammi Gildea. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 13, at 12 noon from the Hoosick Baptist Church on South Street in Hoosick, N.Y. Burial will follow the service at the West Hoosick Cemetery in West Hoosick, N.Y. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Dawn's family would like to thank Dr. James Carroll, Dr. Les Goldstein, Dr. Andrew Coates, Dr. Ronald Mench, staff at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, staff at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, niece Lisa Begin and sister-in-law Paula Baker for all the love and caring they gave to Dawn. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.

Don, Tracey and Erik,
We were surprised and saddened to learn of Dawn's passing. Loved hearing about her singing quartet at the service today. Made us remember stories of Violet, Gertrude and Eleanor Dundas singing together at their home. Violet Dundas Baker and Gertrude Dundas Schneski were sisters, so Bill Schneski is Dawn's first cousin. Many happy memories from long ago. Violet's musical gene must have passed to Dawn.

To Dawnie's family ~ our deepest sympathy on the loss of such a special lady! We will miss all the "Lucy" antics ~ one especially remembered is the BYF "commercial" night and the peppermint patty segment [a story we share over and over] ~ she was always ready to make someone laugh and her laugh was contagious ~ we remember fondly the many gatherings. She was a wonderful caregiver to the many "children" [always children, not kids] she prepared for kindergarten over the years ~ she had a talent that she freely shared! While she is safely in heaven, welcomed by Mom and Dad, free of all pain, the love and memories you shared will never die. As you celebrate her life, be sure to share the many stories and have a laugh or two because that is the way she would want you all to remember her. She will be missed by us and so many others.
