Edward Prescott Obituary

Lt. Edward M. Prescott

1926 - 2015 BENNINGTON Lt. Edward M. Prescott, 89, Vermont State Police Retired, died Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Vermont Veterans Home where he had been a patient for the past 4 years. He was a former resident of Barre and later Essex Jct. Born May 30, 1926 in Hoosick Falls, NY, he was the son of George and Ellen (Mooney) Prescott and had attended school in that area. Being a World War II veteran, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October of 1944 and served as a Seabee in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations, being discharged as a Seaman First Class in March of 1946. Following his military service, he married Paula Ann Nickerson and they made their home in several Vermont communities to accommodate his career in law enforcement. Paula died in 1977, leaving Ed to raise their children. He enjoyed his career of 28 years with the Vermont State Police and followed that with several years of service as a Deputy Sheriff at the Barre District Court and State Office Building in downtown Barre. In 1992, he married Mary Anne (Granai) Decker, making their home on Laurel Drive in Essex Jct., where she died December 25, 2011. Survivors include all of Ed and Mary Anne's children; Paul, Mark and John Prescott and Terri Prescott Carpenter and Peter and David Gehlbach, Karen Decker and Alison Decker Garand as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his spouses, he was predeceased by his parents and sister, Shirley Prescott Bourne. Being an expert skier, he had been a member of the Ski Patrol at Pico Peak and Bolton Valley Skis areas. His children will always remember his gentle guiding love, glass half-full attitude and jovial demeanor and will miss him dearly. May God Bless and rest his soul. SERVICES: There will be a remembrance ceremony and interment service with military honors at a time to be announced in the Spring of 2016. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Activity Fund, 325 North Street, Bennington, VT 05201, or Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, VT is in charge of the arrangements. For a memorial guestbook, visit : www.hookerwhitcomb.com

Ed was my Dad/Bill's friend at the Veteran's Home Bennington. I'd see Ed every visit; we would color together. He colored things orange and now he's found other colors. Rest in peace, Ed..you were a friend to new friends always...bless you..
