Helke Rothberg

1933 - 2025

Helke Rothberg, 91, died on April 6th, 2025. She was born in Germany in 1933 and spent much of her young life in East Germany. She went to England when WW2 ended to study Physical Therapy. It was there that she met her beloved husband and soulmate, Alan Rothberg, who was working as a dentist for the US Army. Helke returned to the US with him, where they married in 1958 and lived in New Jersey. She worked as a much loved PT at Englewood Hospital throughout her career. They often visited Vermont and fell in love with the Green Mountains. Helke loved the outdoors and spent many active outdoor days year round. They retired to South Londonderry, Vermont in 1990.

She is survived by her niece and nephew, Charles Kallenbach (Alison Rosenberg) and Lisa Kallenbach (Andrew Neuwirth), as well as her brother Peter Sauerbrey, his wife Inge and their daughter Saskia in Germany. She was predeceased by her husband Alan Rothberg, her twin sister Gisa and two other sisters, Barbara and Renata, all in Germany.

She will be missed by many, including her incredible devoted neighbor, Sally Forbes, her sister Jeannie Forbes, and their entire families. They adopted her as family and included her in every holiday and event. They were in daily contact with her and made her life better every single day.

A graveside service will be held this Thursday, 4/24 at noon at the Bennington Park Lawn Cemetery.
