Janet Willbrant Obituary

PETERSBURGH - Janet Marie (Danforth) Willbrant, 75, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at her home in Petersburgh. She was born in Cambridge, NY on August 29, 1950, the daughter of the late Forrest and Ruth (Myers) Danforth.

Janet was a 1968 graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School. She married her late husband, Harry Douglas Willbrant on January 26, 1969. After raising her family, she was employed by the Vermonter Motor Lodge in Bennington, VT and later by the Hoosick Falls Central School as the cafeteria cashier in both the elementary and high school for many years before retiring in 2013.

She was a very active communicant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Hoosick Falls where she volunteered at the Thrift Shop and was a member of St. Hilda's Guild.

Janet loved crafts, sewing and reading and enjoyed making quilts and bags as gifts for many people. She was known for being a creative gift giver always finding unique gifts that seem to fit each person perfectly. She loved her dogs and cats dearly, having rescued many dogs and cats from shelters as well as those dropped off by the side of the road. She always had animals, dogs, cats and birds her whole adult life. Her beloved Dog, Mooch was her heart dog who was like her 5th child. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family on a regular basis. She especially loved to play "dice" with her son, Cory every day.

Janet stayed in close contact with many life long friends over the years relying on each other for friendship, support and companionship especially during tough times along with her family.

She often would take sunset "buggy rides" with her husband Doug and sit on their deck to enjoy their morning coffee while watching for deer and enjoyed her vacations on Lake Bomoseen in Vermont for many years.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harry Douglas Willbrant; loving mother of Keith D. Willbrant of Cohoes, Kevin J. (Michelle) Willbrant of West Hoosick, Carrie L. Willbrant of Troy and Cory L. Willbrant of Petersburgh; grandmother of Emmitt, Addison and Owen Willbrant; sister of Ronald Danforth, Barbara (Ray) Wrubleski and Diana (Jeffrey) Kipp all of Hoosick Falls, Gary Danforth of North Hoosick and the late Richard Danforth. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh on Friday from 11:00 am-12 noon. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon with The Rev. Peter Pierson officiating. Her ashes will be buried in the spring along with her husband's ashes in Meadowlawn Cemetery, Petersburgh.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, PO Box 272, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.

I remember Janet as a warm and caring woman. I am deeply saddened of her passing. She was a joy to see at the thrift shop at St Mark's church. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends. RIP Janet.
