Joel Greene Obituary

WILMINGTON -- Joel Nathan Greene, 55, a resident of Merrill Drive died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in West Halifax from injuries sustained in a logging accident. Joel was born in Bennington on Dec. 23, 1950.

He is the son of Robert and Evelyn (Canedy) Greene. Joel grew up in Wilmington, graduating in 1968, and then attended Keene State College. Throughout his high school years he worked at his family’s Esso station and after college operated his own service station in West Lebanon, N.H.

Joel’s love of the outdoors stimulated his interest in the career choices he chose to pursue; logging for himself, working on commercial fishing boats in Alaska and as a veneer buyer for David R. Webb Co. His wealth of knowledge and experiences brought him to New York City, where he worked for the Union of Operating Engineers, and eventually came back to Wilmington, where he established Greene’s Power Equipment and Rock Maple Racing. Joel loved being in the woods. His passion for hunting, fishing and snowmobiling was infectious and his talent respected by the best.

Joel leaves his wife, Sandra Bolduc of Wilmington; their children, Hannah and Ben Greene of Wilmington ; his parents, Robert and Evelyn Greene of Wilmington; his brother, John and his wife, Beth Greene; a brother, Peter Greene of Wilmington; a brother, Robert, and his wife, Robin of Bennington; a sister, Susan and her husband, Robert Cann of Bedford, Mass.; his father-in-law, Roland Bolduc, and brother-in-law, Dan Bolduc of West Dover; and a brother-in-law, Steven Bolduc of Wilmington. Joel will also be missed by many nieces and nephews,

Our hearts are open with strength, light and love in celebration of Joel’s life. He has a bond with each of you; for he has uniquely touched all of our lives as a loving husband and father with an endearing sense of pride for family and friendships that will be trusted with fondness in our hearts always.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at Social Lodge No. 38 F&AM followed by refreshments and fellowship at the Old Red Mill in Wilmington. In honor of Joel’s dedication to Masonry and love of the outdoors, memorial gifts may be made to Social Lodge No. 38, which will establish a scholarship fund to send local children to the Green Mountain Conservation Camp to foster good sportsmanship and outdoor skills in youth. Gifts may be sent to the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363. To send condolences to the family of Joel N. Greene, visit www.sheafuneralhomes.com.

Dear Sandra,Rob, Susan, John, Peter, Bob, Eveyln, Hannah and Ben,

I am so very sad to hear about Joel. I can't imagine how you are all feeling, but I know that I have lost a big brother. Your family raised all of us Cole kids and it is hard to think of Joel in another place without us.

From what Mom and Dad said, the service was amazing and there were so many people there. I wish I was there as well. He was a big part of so many people's lives.

There were so many fun things that I can remember doing with Joel... like climbing in the stacks of tires in the old barn , dirt bike riding when Pappa Bruce told us to be careful and not go so fast... getting dragged behind the snowmobiles on sleds all over the place...running through the old house and hiding in the many rooms...going to motorcross races and feeling like I was a real bike racer...Always a big smile and hug when ever I zipped back to Vt... our first stop was always the garage and we would look to see if Joel was home...

I know that I will have lots more tears when I come home and see all of you again. Want you all to know that we are thinking of you and share in your loss. Family members are are hard to lose and Joel was the big brother that I never had, so I am bummed.

Lots of love to you all,

Deedee

Sandra & Family,

The following is inspired by an Eskimo legend. I hope it brings some peace to your heart....

"Perhaps

they are not

the stars,

but rather,

openings in Heaven

where

The love of our lost ones

pours through

and shines down

upon

us

to let us know they are happy."

Although I never met Joel, I heard many stories about him, spoken affectionately by you. He must have been a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend. I wish you all whatever comforts you.

Fondly, Jen Clancy

It has been a few years since he and I last crossed paths and yet each time we saw each other; it felt so good to "catch up" and share stories. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family over the tragic and sudden loss of Joel. He loved the woods that he worked so hard in. That is something he and I will always share.
