John Agnew Obituary

On Tuesday March 9th 2021, John Agnew, loving father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 60.

John was born November 21, 1960, in Baltimore MD, to John and May (Marr) Agnew. John retired, having worked for NASA for 20 years as part of the Teamsters Local 639 union. He was married in 1991 to Beth Dinsmore, and raised his family in MD before a brief time living in Florida. He moved with his children to Vermont in the summer of 2005. First residing in Pownal and then making his way to Bennington, where he spent his remaining years.

John was very well known and loved by his community here in Bennington. He enjoyed playing music (at home or at his church), metal detecting, woodworking, and riding mini bikes or motorcycles along the back roads of Pownal. John was an avid firearms enthusiast; spending countless afternoons with his son and nephews at the local gun range. John was also an active member of his church, where he enjoyed playing music as a member of the praise and worship team. Most of all, John loved spending as much time as he could with his beloved grandchildren.

John was known by everyone as a kind, loving, and generous man. He could be found, most days, walking around town, stopping to chat and saying hi to friends, or lending a hand to anyone in need. He always had a smile on his face and loved to talk with anyone and everyone.

John was preceded in death by his father, John, and mother, May. His sister, Kate, nephew John, and grandson Miles. He is survived by his children Adam, Amelia, Christine, and Rebekah, as well as his "adopted" daughter Kristin Reeves. His five grandchildren, Rylan, Callan, Sawyer, Laney, and Hazel. His nephew Jamyn Burgess, and his son Alec Burgess. His four remaining siblings, Mary White, Irene Quinn, Norma McCready, and Susan Burgess as well as numerous nieces, and nephews.

John will be laid to rest in Parklawn Cemetery on Friday, March 19th in a private ceremony.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 20th, at Missionary Alliance Church, here in Bennington. All are welcome, and encouraged, to join his friends and family in celebrating his life. Visiting time and refreshments will start at 11am, and the service will be held from 1-2pm.
