John Hall Obituary

John Peter Hall was born August 27 to Elmer and Edna Hall in Bennington, Vermont, departed from this life on December 25, 2021 in his home after a hard fought with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the middle of five children and attended public schools in Bennington, graduating in 1963. He was very active in school, participating in many sports. John attended Murray State University, where he played football and graduated on the 7 year plan so he could snow ski in the spring. After moving to Springfield he attended Drury College and obtained his Masters Degree in Education. John was employed by the Springfield Public Schools for 30 years as a Driver's Education Instructor and as a coach. He was at Parkview High School for 10 years as a teacher and assistant wrestling coach, and moved to Hillcrest High School where he spent 20 years as a teacher and head wrestling coach. Of all the sports he coached, he enjoyed wrestling the most. Coach Hall left quite a legacy as a coach and was an inspiration to many of his athletes.

John had a variety of interests, most of which were connected to the outdoors. He loved camping with his family, snow skiing with his daughters, and fishing with his buddies. He was also a gifted stone mason, building rock walls, brick patios, etc. for a multitude of people around Springfield. A very giving person, he is on the Wall of Fame for giving blood to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, and for years was active in the Local 409 Elks Club.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Judy Center, and a daughter, Sarah Hall. He is survived by a sister, Sue Hall, and brothers Jeff (Michelle) and Elmer (Renee). He is also survived by daughter Katie Mostyn (Chris), their two daughters Sarah and Caroline, and daughter Mary Mills (Ryan) and their three daughters Hannah, Emily, and Molly. John is also leaving a host of friends who will miss his booming voice, his opinionated view of life, and his loving and caring attitude.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in John's name may be sent to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks or the United Service Organizations (USO). There is a celebration of life picnic planned for this summer. Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
