Joseph Cerretani Obituary

BENNINGTON -- Joseph D. Cerretani, 85, formerly of Sandgate and East Arlington, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Mr. Cerretani was born in Hazelton, Pa. on Aug. 1,1918, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Christina (Paternoster) Cerretani. A World War II Army veteran he served with the 124th Calvary in China, Burma and India Theater of Operations.

He was married to the former Sibia Bossone on Oct. 6,1956 in Connecticut; she predeceased him on March 24, 2001.

Throughout his life Mr. Cerretani had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry in Connecticut. Following retirement he and his wife relocated from Norwalk, Conn. to Sandgate where they lived for several years prior to moving to East Arlington. Mr. Cerretani was an avid hunter and a member of the New Canaan (Conn.) Horseshoe Club and New Canaan Old Timers Club. Upon relocating to Sandgate he became a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Carolyn Cerretani of Sulpher Springs, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirlee and William Miron of Huntington, Conn.; a brother, Michael Cerretani of New Canaan, Conn.; four sisters, Mary Christofaro of New Canaan, Conn., Elodia Jordon of New Canaan, Conn., Norma Dorsey of Waterbury, Conn. and Elizabeth Stone of Pawley’s Island, S.C.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 7 at 2 p.m. at the Cerretani family lot in Sandgate Center Cemetery with the Rev. George Dupuis, pastor of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating.

There are no calling hours. Memorial gifts in his memory may be made to Centers For Living and Rehabilitation Activities Fund in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
